📺 Over the Garden Wall

What a joy this show is.

📺 Scare Me (2020)

Most of this movie consists of a few people hanging out in a cabin telling scary stories, which is the closest to capturing the feeling now that I had watching Are You Afraid of the Dark? as a kid.

Banned Books Week is next week, and I quite like their "if you have X minutes" webpage to give readers concrete and actionable steps. bannedbooksweek.org/let-freedom-...

Square has a bunch of these pages, as well. So when I search for "point of sale for barbershops", I get one of their landing pages near the top of the results page. Are our open source websites missing this?
jonafato.bsky.social
Definitely. Part marketing / landing page, part user success story / testimonial, part showcase for third party tooling. All this info is out there in the world, so the thought here is mostly "what if a place to collect it?". Could be a great opportunity for community contributions, too.

There's also the angle of I just really like hearing about how people are using Python in ways that I don't encounter all that often. I talked to a few people at DjangoCon US that work in interesting fields I have no insight into, and they're building everything with Python and Django.

Mostly as a way to highlight different capabilities to different audiences, e.g. Python for astronomy? We've got you covered, including links to popular libraries and some highlighted use cases from people in your field. Same goes for web dev, journalism, etc. etc.

That, and more. The types of pages you mention as well team size / business stages like startups, for small IT teams at nonprofits, for large teams at major corporations.

e.g. Squarespace has "tours" of websites for musicians, photographers, small business owners, and other example use cases -- are there equivalents like this for programming languages and frameworks?

What are some examples of open source projects that take a marketing approach of maintaining dedicated landing pages for different target users?

Today is not Friday, but it's still a good day to support these groups. Do you use Python at work? If so, does your employer sponsor or contribute to the PSF and the Python packages you depend on?

Happy Friday. It is a good day to support your open source foundations, maintainers, and communities.

Thanks for clarifying. Yes, the short version is that enrollment ends some time before voting begins for the current election cycle (with this year's dates detailed in that blog post). You should expect to receive information and reminders for next year. Thanks for being a Contributing Member!
jonafato.bsky.social
The election just closed, but I wanted to respond here and follow up for the future. Did you join as a Supporting or Contributing member and affirm your intent to vote before 2:00PM UTC on August 26th (pyfound.blogspot.com/2025/06/2025...)? If so, I believe you should have received a ballot.
jonafato.bsky.social
I voted. Did you?

This year's election is down to the final hours, and voting is an high-impact way you can continue to contribute to Python.

Feedback is hard to come by, especially positive feedback. If you appreciate someone, if their work has helped you, and especially if you want them to continue doing the things they're doing, let them know.
