This isn’t smth that I think was intend r to be funny but when I was first reading the five star stories I was under the impression that the colus empire was vaguely European in style so this panel absolutely floored me
I don’t want the new releases to completely remove them as espcially the fashion segments at the end of the books are some of my favourite parts of the toy press releases, but I think things like the bios should be put at the end rather than the front or released seperately
I think a lot of apprehension towards getting started with fss(at least with English speakers) is due to how the English releases front load you with bios and more that you aren’t actually supposed to fully take in before actually reading, making the mags seem more daunting than it actually is.

dungeon crawlers have plenty of dead ends that seek to drain your resources and you're constantly presented with multiple paths to go down at once when trying to make progress. they're not linear run throughs with singular branching paths that always reward you,,,,

they should ban stories in rpgs till people remember the gameplay was there for a reason too
(Assuming ac1) it’s a very funny game, the economy is very tight pre energy weapons. Probably one of my favourite economies in a game
This is what life as a fire emblem fan is like wrt several unit archetypes, it’s so funny

I have kind of been enamored with this phenomenon of codified genre tropes that don't actually happen in the genre all that much. Like mecha being gritty war dramas with mind controlled supersoldiers. Like that's literally just Gundam. And even then not really exactly.

action game forces itself to use the standardised right stick freecam and instead of doing anything interesting with the blind spots it opts to gut the complexity of encounters with multiple enemies at once. i weep for the funky ZOE radar thingy

the saddest thing we ceded to Conventional Game Design was cool applications of the camera

this in particular stings because the contradiction between "adults trying to get into gaming want Mature Stories" and "adults who've never played a video game before understandably can't handle complex systems" has us approaching ~20 years of dark and gritty murder games that play like Simon Says.
Thinking about Difficulty more because I was popping off about it on stream tonight, but I keep going back and thinking to how people give like.. intro reading/watching/listening lists for subjects that are dense and hard to get into, so people can build literacy in various mediums and genres.

great thread about difficulty in gaming, uncooked thesis of mine is that people expect games to cater to their difficulty because games are still seen a 'toys' and not 'art', and if these games are 'art', it is only the story that is 'art', locked behind gameplay. no one expects new readers to 1/2

People do this in games. You can find awesome links for shmups, or beat'em ups, or classic roguelikes to build up fluency in something your interested in, but the general convo around difficulty doesn't treat it like a type of literacy, but a barrier.

The chance of Marvel writing a story about the characters traveling back to the USA Civil War and doing a "these people are just trying to fight for their rights, we are all Americans" for the South is now possible

Of course that would entail not involving any black hero.

ironically this comparison has helped me pinpoint why it immediately looked off to me, it's the individually rendered teeth and replacing the black pupils with more realistic brown eyes on top of rounding out the angular features
I've seen people say Dragon Quest VII Reimagined looks bad and I disagree. The level of respect they put into Toriyama's original artwork is impressive.

it's kind of awesome how terrible that dq7 remake looks. the dragon quest without the toriyama
