Big day for transport nerds: it’s the final day of the Moscow Monorail before it shuts down for good. I’ve ridden it before and it was completely empty, like a romantic ride where every couple gets their own pod. Today, the city’s come out to give it a send-off. Прощай, легенда!

the new SIM card law means that us foreigners have to go get our documents checked in government offices. the Moscow government has decided to stop foreigners using the offices in the centre of the city for certain services, so we're all being funnelled out to the suburbs. nice

May holidays at the dacha only mean one thing: manual labour

even worse is that the internet provider (lovit) is a subsidiary of the company who built the housing complex (Pik), and they won't let any other internet providers in as competition

Crazy situation in my housing complex in Moscow that shows the downsides of smart tech.

The internet has been down for 24 hours. That would be fine, but the gates to the complex are internet activated, and the doors are opened with an app (or face), so nobody can get in! Madness

Some excerpts from Trump’s press conference. He also welcomed European talk of sending peacekeepers to Ukraine, stressing that any such deployment would follow a ceasefire deal at the least. It sounds like he’s nearly as eager to move past Zelensky as Putin is.

fair enough, I just always thought that area was absolutely awful

that whole area is unrecognisable now, take a look on yandex maps. there's a lot of nice new buildings and tinkoff moved in. cleaned the area up

Russian news outlets love those types of articles. Just endless quotes of nice things foreign media has said about Russia

The items for sale are mostly the same—Soviet memorabilia, old random tat, Russian dolls, and things you’d never expect to find in Moscow (like a British police uniform). And, of course, some very modern t-shirts…

Looks like COVID and then the war have been the death knell for Moscow’s Izmailovo Market. The last time I was here in 2019, every stall was open, and the place was full of foreign tourists.

Moscow is repurposing its Christmas trees for Chinese New Year by wrapping dragons and snakes around them
