I just read the most excellent, again, opinion piece by Ezra Klein in the NYTimes, one of the perhaps three voices in their opinion section whose pieces are always 100% spot on. The others are Tom Friedman and David French ( yes, I know he’s a Republican). This piece should set trumplethinskin afire
I was checking on a package location in the FedEx app when I saw a boxed area that said “if you’re expecting an international package you’ll get a text or email from us regarding import duties and taxes due for your item. Click here for more info” I clicked out of curiosity

This tidbit is ridiculous.
“The Trump administration had proposed the antidumping levies after a review found that Italian pasta producers, including Barilla, La Molisana and Pastificio Lucio Garofalo, sold products at artificially low prices that undercut U.S. manufacturers”.
The U.S. has rolled back proposed steep tariffs on Italian-made pasta, the U.S. Department of Commerce and Italy's foreign ministry both said Thursday.
U.S. reduces proposed tariffs on Italian pasta, Italy's foreign ministry says
Steep U.S. import duties targeting 13 Italian pasta makers will be sharply reduced, Italy's foreign ministry said on Jan. 1.

I love how in their article about Zohran Mamdani being sworn in the NYTimes says “about 40,000 people are expected at the block party of Broadway for Mamdani”. As a native NYer, and one who’s extremely excited for this mayor, I’d say the numbers, even with snow on the ground, will be closer to 100K

A rather dreary but somewhat warm, 29th of December, day. Fog, musty rain, some wind, not enough to cancel the boats or planes but the fog did cancel some things today already. That’s what one gets for living on the grey lady.

The concentration of wealth in the hands of an elite few isn't just bad for our economy. It's corrosive to our democracy.

When the wealthy and well-connected control our political system, the American people don't have a voice.

The result is demagoguery and corruption.

Absolutely beautiful!!! My favorite color adorning my favorite insect 💙🦋
A Blue Wave butterfly (Myscelia cyaniris) resting with wings open at the Butterfly Pavilion in Westminster, Colorado. I kept the background subdued so the blue pattern could quietly take center stage.

Man, this country is fucked up. As a lifelong liberal and currently democratic socialist, people are WAYYU too sensitive and seriously need to grow a massive pair. You see something you don’t like? Scroll past it but DO NOT assume the author is something that they aren’t.

Like, WTAF Bluesky? You’re becoming like FB, Instagram, threads, or, worse, X. Fuck you

Checking my email this morning I saw that I had received an email from Bluesky moderating team about a post. It’s like FB and the others. No mention of the actual offense, and, it says this is a warning, which I guess means they’ll ban my account later. WTAF, Bluesky?

I’ve come to realize that these last two generations are probably the laziest and most ignorant of history. Last night I was watching the Graham Norton show with Emma Thompson and Timothee Chalamet and he didn’t know who Sampson and Delilah (biblical figures). I’d be embarrassed if that were me

Ok, so here’s a poll, of sorts.
What’s the best film you’ve seen and I don’t mean mindless Dwayne Johnson claptrap.

What a depressing article. 2 books in a school year to read? When I was their age I read at least 2 books a week. Weekends? 3
