I keep pitching fifty or more new justices so six would seem like a conservative compromise

We’re going to get the dumbest version of Children of Men, huh

Made hot sauce out of our garden’s haul of chiles and let the kid go to town naming it
Seven jars of hot sauce with increasingly weird names

Like any horror movie, you gotta try to keep the villain down as long as you can

Yeah, Harvey Keitel does the de-narding while he’s on the cross
joshuagooch.bsky.social
She said no, I said yes, and apparently we're not allowed to talk about this in front of her parents
joshuagooch.bsky.social
It’s hard to convey the sound she made in response

My kid just asked his mom--who went to Catholic schools from kindergarten through undergrad--"Was Jesus the one who got his nards cut off?"

Well, finally watched Weapons. Between this and Barbarian, Cregger seems to be building a career around this Seymour Skinner bit

Okay, one exception: Stephen Graham Jones’s Indian Lake trilogy. That has the scope and multi focalization of King and Straub when you take the series as a whole

As I leap between ‘70s / ‘80s horror novels and contemporary ones, I’m surprised by a structural difference.

King and Straub wrote what were almost Victorian multiplot novels—lots of characters and character focalizors. I can’t think of any one writing those baggy novels about, eg, entire towns

First decent pass at misir wat. Making nitter kibbeh really was the key
Plate of misir wat, stewed collards and kale, and brown basmati rice

I’ve got a whole chapter about this piece of common sense and some great horror movies that take it apart
joshuagooch.bsky.social
Wow, I got so many great proposals for my NeMLA call on history and horror.

Here's hoping I can get another session or two, because I want to hear all of these pieces!

I'm three hundred pages into Adorno's Negative Dialectics, and this pops onto my feed.

What could be more fascist, in his reading, than the drive to unify strings of text into a single, coherent personality?

Love to spend months planning an event and have the kid get sick the night before

My god, this reply to Cass refusing to answer whether he has second thoughts on being friends with Kissinger
But you could have an opinion on it.
You have an opinion on all kinds of things, right?

Well, on him and his role in government, that's not something I've
particularly studied, so I dont know.

Trying to think of an outline for a new horror project about horror in the present moment.

What horror can teach us now:
• Know your enemies
• Find your allies
• Don’t stop until the threat is removed
• Prepare for a sequel

"He won't actually share his feelings or opinions with me," she continued. "He just shares these loutputs] that ChatGPT writes about his thoughts or feelings and how they're right."
The deeper he was drawn into ChatGPT, she told us, the less he seemed to want to engage in a meaningful way outside of the chatbot.
He "was not open to my perspective that his questions were leading, or that he was not presenting an accurate picture, so it's not giving him accurate answers," she continued. "Finally, I told him, listen. Don't f*cking send me any more ChatGPT stuff! I am down to hear your perspective in your words. I'm down for you to say, 'here's what I learned on ChatGPT, and give me a description of it that we can discuss as two human beings with our own intellect. But sending me these... I would say one thing, and he would send me this barrage of f*cking data."

Thank you! I have gloves and goggles, but not a dedicated grinder
joshuagooch.bsky.social
I think if I mixed the ghost peppers and the Thai chiles in that jar, I’d have more than a pick me up experience!
joshuagooch.bsky.social
Well, that mistake is finally over. Now I have to decide whether I grind the ghost peppers up
