Alberta’s proposed private care plan will not reduce wait times. It will worsen them. The evidence is consistent in Canada and abroad: parallel public–private systems lead to poorer outcomes and longer waits, with many patients paying twice for care.
Doctors across Canada are deeply concerned that the #Alberta government’s proposed private care plan will leave more Albertans waiting even longer to access health care. The CMA is calling on the government to reconsider this proposal, and focus on known solutions to support public health care.

We know this because the Society of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists of Canada, as well as their U.S. counterparts, have stated it. What is risky is untreated fevers during pregnancy, which can cause miscarriage, organ malformations, cardiovascular complications, and even autism.
