We might toy around with some of these times, but to sneak peak why more than just the players should attend Volan. We've got some education sessions, panels, and networking in the lineup this year.

Free for faculty, staff, students, everyone.
The System Sucks, This Job Sucks.
I just want some sleep.

Would make a very good tee-shirt slogan.

For what its worth.

It's the 14th day. Time to do my real job and count all the students.

Now if they'd please hold still so I don't lose track that'd be cool.

I loathe, the idea that Universities, which already generally pay less than average for most professions, ask employees to donate back to their employer.

But...

You can pick your cause in the Big Orange Family Campaign. So why not consider giving to the Esports Club.

I'm only 600 pages in. But let me say. I don't think I've ever read 600 pages so quickly. I only cracked this open for the first time on Friday.

For the last 6 months I've gotten really into audiobooks and it started getting me excited for reading again in a way I hadn't experienced since I was younger reading the Hunger Games or HP.

But then I found Dungeon Crawler Carl and whoa man. I don't think I've been so enamored with a book series.

My latest co-authored article with Megan Condis was just published in Games: Research and Practice. And it's open access!

Rad Dudes, Rude ‘Tude, and the Family, Too: How Nintendo and Sega Advertisements Shaped the Image of Gaming in the 1990s | Games: Research and Practice
The tale of the console wars of the 1990s, the stodgy, conservative, family-friendly Nintendo consoles waging an advertising war against the rebellious upstarts behind the Sega Genesis, has been told ...

Snowday problems. Worked on my laptop half the day. Came downstairs to my work machine to see this while the kid has run off to swim practice.

Volan 2026 is happening and signups are live.

Still working on a final list of games so check back if your favorite isn't on there. Plan for at least - OW2, Valorant, Rivals, LOL, Rocket League, Smash (in all its forms), SF6, Tekken, GG:Strive and more.

I wonder how many youths don't realize it's called a podcast because you would have to download it so you could listen on your iPod?

The absurdity of the college football calendar is perfectly embodied by students having to enter the transfer portal less than 24 hours after winning (or losing) a national championship.

They haven't even had the parade yet..for the love.

The University pretending like 24/7 access to an electronic W2 is some awesome new "service" provided to us by a third party support company, as if they've forgotten that the old system had a copy of every form they've ever sent me the last 15 years at the click of a button.

We've gone backwards.

Do we ever think about how odd the timeline for hiring in higher education is?

Post job in October. Begin review in November. Interview a handful on zoom in Dec/Jan. Bring them to campus in Feb. Budget for job approved in June. Job starts in August.

Wash, Rinse, Repeat.

The SEC is 4-9 in post season play is even more striking given that 2 of those wins (and technically 2 of the losses) were guaranteed.

Remove those 2 games and in reality they are 2-7.

All the readers of Dungeon Crawler Carl are aware that Grok has simply reached the next phase of his growth before he goes Primal. If we just send in the Liaison to negotiate a peace we can get on with the Crawl as planned.

I started using Copilot for work to help me write and learn some new (to me) excel formulas assuming the one thing it should be good at is using its own programs.

It does an ok job explaining, but in providing code snippet examples to use it's on a current 30% correct or complete rate.

Looking at the SEC football schedule this week. I do think the state schools should at least be required to schedule homecoming against an in-state opponent.

I kind of enjoy that "Black Friday" has been captured by marketing to mean a random set of dates after Halloween but before Christmas and sometimes in July.
