A semi-annual reminder that player statements about DQs/Bannings always leave out key details attempting to generate sympathy. They know the “other side” will not discuss the DQ/ban. Sometimes the spin is slight, other times it is massive. There is always more to the story.

We do news episodes when we don't feel inspired to talk about rules, skills, or some weird event in Albuquerque.

Or, you know, when there is something REALLY IMPORTANT TO TALK ABOUT:

Thanks to an attentive listener, we have made an edit to the show by removing an interaction we discussed.

Another way to look at it.
The rules say a resolving instant spell is put into the GY. It’s still an action you take, but it’s not an effect.
judgecast.bsky.social
You are misunderstanding.
“As this enters…” on a card, any card is an effect. But 714.3a isn’t on the card. It’s in the rules text. The rules give battles and PWs an intrinsic ability so they do have an effect. But they didn’t do that for sagas
judgecast.bsky.social
The point I want to make is:DS’s wording causes problems. Per strict reading of the rules, it shouldn’t work. Based on what wotcs said in releease notes and programmed, it should work. Based a skeet, it shouldn’t. Etc Personally I’d like to see them errata DS so it works like people think.
judgecast.bsky.social
“That meets the definition, yeah?”
Strictly speaking? It does not. The counter is going on as the result of a rule, not a spell or ability. Another example: A spell going to the GY after it resolves is not an effect, it’s just a rule.
judgecast.bsky.social
The fact it matches the replacement effect template, is the problem. Because it’s just a CR entry and strictly speaking doesn’t meet the definition of an effect despite looking like one on the surface.
judgecast.bsky.social
The issue is that the rule that puts lore counters on is written with the wording of a replacement effect, it isn’t one. Compare to the wording for the “intrinsic abilities” of PWs and Battles that put counters on them.

[bryan] I think this is the first time I’ve seen a format banned from a format.
