Reminds me of the Nazis use of the term cosmopolitan as a slur against Jews claiming they have no allegiance to their country. Trump is now doing the same with anyone not fitting his profile of what an American is.

The NY Times has devoted a full page to the profile of a militant who is feeling hopeless that his violent actions didnt uproot Israel (His words.) Why? Are we supposed to feel sorry for him? www.nytimes.com/2025/08/12/w...

Iran is an ethnostate. Afghanistan is. Yemen is. Most Middle East Muslim countries are. Do you object to them?

It is right to condemn Israel's actions but when famine is mentioned and the only country that comes to mind is Israel I have to wonder why. Yemen, Afghanistan, Sudan, Ethiopia are all experiencing manmade famines. Where is your outrage about that?
judithhannan.bsky.social
Yes. We should care about all children bit where is the outrage when it comes to famine in Sudan, Yemen, Afghanistan. Israeli policy deserves our condemnation. But if you are only protesting them what are you really saying?

With poetry and the fine stitching of words, Yasmina Khadra (pen name of Mohammed Moulessehoul) portrays the reality of life under the Taliban. Using just a few characters, he gives us an intimate look at lost hope and devastation. #theswallowsofkabul

I heard them speak at an event on Martha's Vineyard. I fell in love with them. They were funny, vulnerable, shared their faith amidst the horrors.

Confusing. If he turned himself in why is his lawyer saying the allegations are baseless and outrageous?

Out of respect for those who may be triggered we are asked not to use words like master bedroom, tone deaf, crazy, exotic, spooky, etc. but when Jews are triggered by globalize the intifada all we hear is that it doesn't mean what we think it means. But it means exactly that. #jewsky #wordsmatter

Lander. We all think we have to vote for Cuomo so Mamdani doesn't get in or Mamdani so Cuomo doesn't get in. Why don't we all just vote for Lander.

Congrats on the double coverage in the Times today. So well deserved.

Not surprising that I haven't seen a single non-Jew posting about this. How will this murder help to Free Palestine?

I use this quote all the time with my students. When I'm stuck in my own writing it's because I'm avoiding that thing I don't want to know.

Perhaps what Schumer has to say about antisemitism is predictable and redundant because that is the history of antisemitism. It is predictable. It is now. Not every conversation on the subject has to include Palestinians who have indeed suffered at the hands of Israel AND Hamas.
judithhannan.bsky.social
I understand the urgency of all that you mention and frustration you might have with Schumer but antisemitism is equally urgent and history teaches us that it always rises in times of fascism and a society's dismantling.

I guess there wasn't any need for the @icrc.org to work in/delineate such "occupied" territories when Jordan and Egypt were the occupiers. (Screenshot, surprisingly enough, from a recent NYT article.) www.nytimes.com/2025/02/14/w...
In the wars surrounding the creation of Israel in 1948, some 700,000 Palestinians fled or were expelled from the new country — to the West Bank, Gaza, Jordan, Lebanon, Egypt and Syria.

Jordan seized and annexed the West Bank and East Jerusalem, and Egypt took Gaza, preventing the creation of the Palestinian state envisioned in a United Nations partition plan.
