Happy New Year, everyone! Went out to help a new University team yesterday. Lots of work on basics, but we finished with teaching a flip toss to one of their flyers. Fun day.

Today is the Intercollegiate Cheer competition in Japan. Lots of teams competing, I have 2 teams in it. Got here a little early because one of my teams needed me to chaperone. Usually leave that to other people but unavoidable this time.

On Sunday I went out to western Tokyo (shoutout to Teikyo U my alma mater) to help that adult open team. They had a flyer who couldn't do flip tosses. So I gave her drills to work on last week and went out to get her flipping. Took less than an hour, and she finished with 5 consecutive clean tosses.

Busy weekend. On Saturday I was planning on coaching hs in the morning, university in the afternoon, and adult open in the evening. But that would mean I travel from Saitama to Kanagawa, Saitama, Kanagawa and back home to Saitama. Needless to say, I could only do the first two.

Usually when I coach it's just instruction and catching if something falls. But helping this adult open team is giving me quite a workout because I'm always covering for members who couldn't make practice.

Today I'm heading out to western Tokyo to help out that adult open team from last night. They are borrowing practice space from a team I haven't practiced with in over 5 years. This should be interesting.

Usual Saturday schedule is two high school teams, one in Kanagawa the other in Saitama. Today just randomly I am coaching a university and adult open team, in Saitama then Kanagawa. Seems I'm destined to always be in Saitama/Kanagawa on Saturdays.

My usual coaching for Saturdays is one hs in Kanagawa then a second up in Saitama. Both are in the middle of testing so no practice this weekend. Instead, I'm going to assist an adult open team at their practice.

Finished coaching an adult open team tonight. One flyer was struggling with heel twists and another was working punch front dismounts. Fixed both, and then worked with the beginners.

Cheer competition season in Japan (for the JCA) is university comp in Dec, high school comp in Jan, and adult/open team comp in Feb. Then everything revs up again for regionals in June, then nationals in August.

Intercollegiate competition is coming up later this month and I have two teams competing this year. I'm trying to get to their practices as much as possible.
