Every one of my large painting needs a protective cardboard box. Every painting will need to be shipped, carted around in my car or put into storage.
This is my box building week. My new painting on immigration needs four large boxes. I am happy to say they are nearly done!

I had the pleasure of speaking to a Quaker group yesterday about my series of painting on suffrage.
I also discovered a possible connection in my family tree with Mary Bentley Thomas, who was a suffragist in Maryland. A relative brought in a book of Mary Thomas's that was signed by Susan B Anthony!

Last weekend, I had the opportunity to see the show "Frida: Beyond the Myth" at the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts.

Lucy Burns faced imprisonment for holding a protest sign near the White house. She led a hunger strike with the 30 other women who protested and were also jailed.
Let's honor people who have the courage to protest, to tell a joke , or express an opinion with which the State might not agree.

Did you know that one of the goals of suffrage was to help women achieve higher pay and better working conditions? Harriot Stanton Blatch worked with Women’s Trade Union League to help women unionize.

According to today's Washington Post, "EPA says companies shouldn’t have to report planet-warming emissions"
This change will save money for companies. However, I lost a parent to lung cancer and I wonder how many more deaths will occur due this change. .

"September 11th," 30" x 20," oil, 2001
On September 11, 2001, I watched hijacked airplanes fly into the World Trade Center in New York . I heard ambulances rush by my neighborhood to tend to the injured at the Pentagon in Washington DC.
I started this painting that same day.

Here is a look at my studio today. I am adding lights to my big red and black painting. This new work looks at the way this administration is separating children from parents as part of our new immigration policy.

On September 6th, thousands marched in Washington Dc, for the "We Are All DC" event. This was the first march held after Trump sent in the National Guard.
I brought my home made sign that said "Democracy," and marched in the heat with family members.

Kremer Pigments, a pigment store in New York, has announced it is closing at the end of November. It's clear that the pigments, which come from around the world, can no longer be sold here after the massive tariffs instituted by our government.

Today is the birthday of Christa McAuliffe, born September 2, 1948. She was the first teacher to become an astronaut and work on the Space Shuttle Challenger. Unfortunately, the shuttle broke apart after launching and all crew were lost .

Sadly, a school shooting happened today in Minneapolis at Annunciation Church , where 2 children are dead and 17 people injured. My heart goes out to those families after this terrible event.
