Why does it take SO long to get an agent?

We discuss the common misconception that silence from an agent means rejection--and what in the world agents are doing when NOT replying.

When is it "no response no" and when is it a rejection? Tune in to find out!

Something cool about this business is that there is often joy and connection in unlikely places. Just reading the (very!) kind, patient notes back to my rejections--telling me about their lives, offering me a cup of tea if I visit their towns--is enough to make one feel better about the world.

We're so happy for you, Kathryn!!

Every panel is full of incredible work--and to be chosen from among those pages is a great honor.

So happy you like the certificate, and hope the included confetti wasn't too terrible to vacuum! 😃

There's almost always a moment, in editing, that feels like when you'd started cleaning out your closet and, suddenly, everything is on the floor.

You wonder if you should have just left it alone. The door closed! Now it's a mess.

Expect this stage. It's scary, but you need it.

What an amazing panel today! @janechunlit.bsky.social was a fabulous guest agent!

Such beautiful proof today that zooming in close on details, on exactly the tiny moments that make a reader feel, can do more for comprehension and trust than any amount of “So forty years ago…” telling on page one.

I'm heading to the book store tomorrow to restock! Tell me what you're reading. Should I put it on my list?

This works great with our friend NYPL (the New York public library)! I have three micro book groups going so far—one literary fiction, one romance, one nonfiction. You can both put in a hold at the same time and you’ll be on the same schedule! And circulation is good for libraries. 📚🥰

Saw this wonderful quote at the always excellent Philadelphia Museum of Art this weekend.

Music, art and literature are an escape to a saner, more balanced world, and we need them now more than ever.

I heard this warning twenty-five years ago in college. So frustrating.
