This is some news I like to hear.
Trump's in full retreat today as his poll numbers slip:

He convened the cabinet to limit Elon after voters pressured Congress.

He delayed the tariffs b/c the market dropped out & created fears of a recession.

He's losing in court b/c DOGE didn't follow the law.

Keep fighting.

Reposting with a photo of the Palisades on the 7th from a friend’s house in Palos Verdes. For perspective, PV is quite a distance from the Palisades. We are hoping that allowing people to tell stories and make art will help us all heal out here. It’s far from over.

Has anyone left Amazon? My membership expires in a few weeks and I’ve been laying the groundwork for doing so. Just wondering how it’s going for those of you who made a clean break. I’m feeling good about it.

This.
Any four Republican Senators could stop this at any time simply by threatening to block all action (or even caucus with the Democrats) if Trump doesn't make certain concessions. They won't, but that should be a much bigger story than whether the Democrats are doing everything that *they* can.

Although we may have more pressing things to volunteer for these days, this sure sounds fun. Apparently, reading cursive is a superpower and the National Archives needs help. You could transcribe Revolutionary War pensions. nypost.com/2025/01/17/l...
Reading cursive is now a ‘superpower’: National Archives seeks help to transcribe 300 million documents
“Reading cursive is a superpower,” Suzanne Isaacs, a community manager with the National Archives Catalog in Washington, DC, told USA TODAY.

This makes my day!
The President of Columbia just told Trump to fuck off in the most extraordinary call for the Americas to rise up against American tyranny that I have possibly ever read.

FREEDOM. Let’s go.

Writing community! Are there any writers out there currently getting together to write and/or critique work? I’d be interested in writing with a small group. After a long hiatus to focus on my professional work I’m writing what I want to write again and looking forward to submitting again!

When a single billionaire can accumulate more money in 10 seconds than their employees make in one year, while workers struggle to meet the basic cost of rent and medicine, then yes, every billionaire really is a policy failure.

So very much agree with this.
It's becoming clear that A.I. is the devil. In a burning world, the energy & water it consumes are unconscionable. The intellectual property theft it depends on is wrong. It is dehumanizing. Its development is fueled by naked greed. It is a giant step backward for humanity & our planet.

Keep a good thought for us LA people and especially the people in Pacific Palisades and Malibu. We’ve lost so many landmarks today. This photo is taken from an airport many miles away.

Good morning! For my paying job I write about architecture. Today I thought I’d share an article I wrote for the Seattle DJC on diversity, equity, and inclusion requirements in the profession. I bet it will be a hot topic with the incoming regime. www.djc.com/news/ae/1216...

Wake up and smell the sunrise. There are benefits to getting up early and this is one of them. I love bundle-up weather. I’m planning some posts on where we find comfort. Maybe we can turn into a writing op? We’ll need this for the years ahead. I hope people will contribute. Peace out. ✌️
