Had a great time kicking off Dino-vember at Bowman Library. Got to meet Stevie the T-Rex from Dinoquest Adventures and found out his favorite book is Digging for Dinosaurs!

Crafts, storytime, & dino dancing made for a perfect Saturday!

Why do these never cease to amaze me?
We may have assisted a little... We were impatient little kids.
We used to catch these spiders as kids and bring them to the garden to protect. Watching them capture and wrap a grasshopper at amazing speeds is still a core memory!
Yes! And @mychal3ts.bsky.social is the host.
I loved the show and the tie-ins to learn about cool things.
Reading Rainbow was absolutely inspiring for me, wondering how things came to be.
Maybe why I love to physically do things I write about. I've dug for fossils and met an elephant.

It's an amazing feeling when you see something you helped create being shared across the globe.

That's so cool though. Fingers crossed that it sees publishing light some day!

This broke me as a child!!!
Loved Richard Scary!!!
Exactly! And some were performers who could pull you in. They knew how to play those *pauses*, when to read fast, when to whisper. I remember scooting forward in my seat waiting to hear the next parts.
Reading aloud is magic and probably why some will always love audio books too.

Somewhere in Maryland they had a Poe Performance that ran through the 6ish most popular Poe stories and had the best Poe impersonator. So worth seeing!

I always forget too that some of our favs have been rewritten for the modern sensibility.

My kid got fussed at in preschool for telling the other kids that the grasshopper froze to death in the story of the Ants and the Grasshopper.
Apparently now he moves in with the kind ants.
That's why it was perfect that the boxcar was moved to grandpa's backyard! 😉

I remember one of my middle school teachers reading The Raven in the most intense yet melodic tone. I was hooked!

I tried writing my own version for YEARS.

Nah, my kid watched Jaws at age 5 (hanging out at grandma's!) and it became her favorite. Luckily she thought it was silly since sharks don't act like that.

Nonfiction for the win!

#KidLitChat
YES! I read all of them! Even years later, when I saw there were a few more Saddle Clubs, I had to read them.
I liked some dragon books as a kid, but only light fantasy. I didn't have the attention span for heavy fantasy and I hated anything where the dragon was hunted.

That's why books are great. You can have millions of cats in a book!

I think that's why I loved horse books. I'd never own one. But a kid can dream!

What about favorites that teachers read or that we read as a class?
I loved:
Mouse and the Motorcycle
Trumpet of the Swan
Island of the Blue Dolphin

There was something I loved about certain teachers reading out loud.
YES!
I wrote the book report in the early 90's.
I think it was a lyrical picture book (I think).
Maybe the MC was Robin Redbreast?
Illustration of dead robin.
That's all I got.

Love this!
I remember writing a book report on a picture book about a dead robin. I remember loving the book and how my mother gave a weird face at my choice when I had so many others to choose from. I'd love to find it someday.

#KidLitChat
Oh my gosh, me too! I chose the ones at the library that were the same size as The Saddle Club and The Boxcar Children so I could sneak them into the pile.
