EO was a curse for me because ever since I played EO1 I made it my goal to make the healer class/character in every other game a Master of All regardless of how feasible it'd actually be.

This strat actually worked in every EO game. And DQ3, and FF1 somewhat. I powerleveled my Wizardry priests too.

On the topic of future ideas, one thing I'd like to try next game is create more enemies based on urban legends, hoaxes and similar stories.

Prelude had the Fresno Nightcrawler and Hodag, but I'd like to explore the idea further just because it makes for fun designs.

Make weirder enemies, really.

I've been busy these past few days, so I wasn't able to work much on Prelude.

That said, The Fourth Floor quests are all complete. And all that's left of the fifth floor is one cutscene. Basically one step away from completion, besides playtesting.

Prelude is admittedly "safe" in the context of DRPGs. It is my first game, so I'm just testing the basics before trying anything crazy...

Next game I'll include dark zones with soundless spinners And you can't see your map.

Also there's warps that send you to the start. You can't see 'em either.

I may not need it anymore since I draw everything myself, but man I really liked the character generator in RMMV.

It had a cool looking artstyle that allowed for various face types. MZ's character generator just doesn't compare to MV's..

(On that note, do we know the artist for MV's RTP assets?).

I did repeat this often, but it's true: I am *very* close to finishing Nian-Xi Prelude. So I'm making a list of remaining tasks for it:

-Complete the Fourth Floor quests

-Complete the Fifth Floor quests

-Complete the Fifth Floor cutscenes

And that should be it, besides playtesting of course.

Actually, besides Giten (and, uh, the rest of my backlog) I should try and find even more DRPGs to play this year.

Shining in the Darkness, Last Bible Special and Arcana/Card Master have my attention currently...

I really want to play Giten just because I want to see what the map design is like in that game.

It has a "Real Time" combat system too, where you fight enemies by clicking on them and both of you can move around the floor simultaneously.

Also the eerie vibes that early PC RPGs give. Love 'em.

I wonder if someone will eventually try to make a guide for my games. Like "All maps", "All Quest Solutions" or something like that.

Coming back to this since I was bored and tried redoing some of my tracks with a Roland SC-55 soundfont, just to see what they sound like.

And that gave me the idea: What if besides changing gameplay, Classic also changed the soundtrack? That'd be funny.
One thing I'm considering once Nian-Xi Prelude is done is making a "Classic/Modern" option for the following game.

Basically, Classic makes the game play more like older DRPGs, with things such as the mapper spell showing coordinates instead of a minimap, disabling escape items and so on...

Can’t remember who it was but someone somewhere recommended Dragon Ruins as a simple / fun classic-style dungeon crawler and I finally tried it today and I love it haha. Strips away the barriers and complexity but keeps some of the simple hooks that made games like Wizardry so appealing. Diggin’ it

Lots of moments in Etrian Odyssey 1 that still make it my favorite game of all time.

But in particular the way FOEs are used more as a "horror" element to the dungeons unlike later games.

For example: You enter a room with a treasure chest, and suddenly there's one behind you, blocking the exit.
tell me about a time you were awed by a set piece in a video game. not a story beat, not an emotional moment or a cool mechanic, but something just There, in the world, that made your jaw drop or sent a chill up your spine

I feel like I should ditch the Visustella Frontview UI for Nian-Xi Prelude. There's an annoying bug in it that i doubt will get fixed.

The problem is that it's already part of many screenshots, and because so many events use the plugin command to hide/show it, I'm afraid it'll break the game.
