Don’t use social media for DMs!

Redirect people to Signal or use Beeper/matrix for untrusted inboxes
Wild - I am in the UK for a short while (I don't live here) and lost access to my Bluesky messages thanks to UK regulation

I would need to give information to a third party just to see DMs

... and this is why I always have my trusty VPN subscription. Had to turn it on *just to read my messages*

That’s exactly what I said. I think our conclusions may be been different

We’re having a Cambrian Explosion of code. People are able to create so much more than ever before

I’ve done it myself and see it with the open source I maintain

But I think the software industry is going to suffer
When I just started out developing I remember being so so so full of ideas that I was coding in my head and wished I could have done programming while commuting / on the bus. With eg a phone. But it was impossible, ofc.

Now it’s possible!! A massive change

I just realized that as I was moving things around. Have this for the shirt. I think this might be the closest I can get to readability and correct syntax

I was just trying this. Without the first ; it doesn't get defined. Bash 5.3.0

I noticed it here too stackoverflow.com/a/38595828

I'm glad I checked! I had ; in the wrong spot. Needs to be before } on a single line

But now I can't figure out if this is just wrong (I haven't run it)

I’ll make sure the shirt is correct

Do you know if a space is required after () or before the closing }?
January 11, 2026 at 1:41 AM
Wait, is it the unicode? It looks like correct order and characters

What did people do before littering URLs with parameters?

1. They don’t care
2. They guessed
3. They looked at server logs

I prefer the “don’t care” option myself. The more I try to measure something the less fun it is.

My toxic trait is any time a shared URL has a tracking ID I change it

For example, youtube videos using the share button will have ?si=$ID appended to the URL

Whenever I share those links the $ID is either truncated, gibberish, or maybe I replace it with "lolfart" just to mess with the metrics

Building a PC and the ps I bought from OfferUp is a dud 😢

Always test electronics!

Very true, it's not 100% accurate that you can delete all of the parameters

I usually only see required parameters with applications that have logins. In general that wouldn't be something you'd want to share since it would probably be different for someone else

Thanks! Looks like 7digital has what I was looking for. The other 2 didn't.

Where do people buy music from in 2026? I don't need physical CDs/albums, but I do want DRM free downloads and I want to support artists
January 9, 2026 at 7:07 PM
The URL will have a ? and then a bunch of stuff that looks like nonsense with key1=value1&key2=value2

You can delete everything after and including the ? and the link will still work fine. Everything else is just the website tracking who you are and where you came from

Pretty cool that my recent random web app is updating itself with new releases

I've been occasionally voting on things after I watch them, but I haven't done any more coding on the site
