Google Nest raised prices on their subscription

I'll show them!

Buys no subscription cameras for $200

Tries to install cameras (I bought PoE because it's cool 😎), but can't run wires through walls

Spends 4+ hours in the attic frustrated, pissed, and hot

Hires professions

Spends $500

Worth it

The hardware is available and possible (a bit out of reach for most people), but the open models are not the same quality of proprietary services and training isn’t financially viable

Some are getting good enough, but might have a couple years before it’s easy
I want this next generation of software development tools to run on my own computer. Vim and Emacs helped democratize software development and made it accessible. We shouldn't allow this AI wave to take us backwards.

I really hope the open source community can keep pace.

I recorded this because it has been causing a lot of confusion for Talos users

We want to strike a balance between flexibility and simplicity
Machine config is often one giant YAML applied once to install the OS and bring up #Kubernetes

Need certs, storage, or networking first? That gets messy.

Talos uses multi-doc config to apply changes in stages. In v1.12, this is extended to networking.

Don’t use social media for DMs!

Redirect people to Signal or use Beeper/matrix for untrusted inboxes
Wild - I am in the UK for a short while (I don't live here) and lost access to my Bluesky messages thanks to UK regulation

I would need to give information to a third party just to see DMs

... and this is why I always have my trusty VPN subscription. Had to turn it on *just to read my messages*

My toxic trait is any time a shared URL has a tracking ID I change it

For example, youtube videos using the share button will have ?si=$ID appended to the URL

Whenever I share those links the $ID is either truncated, gibberish, or maybe I replace it with "lolfart" just to mess with the metrics

Where do people buy music from in 2026? I don't need physical CDs/albums, but I do want DRM free downloads and I want to support artists

Pretty cool that my recent random web app is updating itself with new releases

I've been occasionally voting on things after I watch them, but I haven't done any more coding on the site

I mostly agree with @quinnypig.com on this

I can't stop laughing about "Moron Cloud" 💀 and a little sad he didn't address Azure's capacity problems. A big reason why I believe they can't/won't grow.
