Jump: while not nearly as big of a hit, I think this fun little bit of pop is right up there with similarly titled songs from my youth by The Pointer Sisters, Van Halen, Kris Kross, House of Pain, and Destiny’s Child

Same. It’s why I’ve been banned from several game nights

I had perfect attendance from kindergarten through 12th grade even after the night I nearly died after a sting by a yellowjacket my parents made me go to school the next day (I’m also deathly allergic to hornets and wasps)

We are about finished with Shelley’s Frankenstein. A student said to me today: do you know what would make a good drag queen name? Fran Kenstein.

Forbidden Love: the 2nd Madonna track with this title, I prefer the Bedtime Stories one but this is fine. As I prefer the tracks on either side of this one more, this is sometimes a skip for me but it’s more about liking the other songs than not particularly liking this one if that makes sense.

Let It Will Be: this is probably my favorite track on Confessions. The prominent opening “strings” reminds me of the opening string section on Papa Don’t Preach. I love the line “just watch me burn” at the 3:15 mark as the beat comes back in.

I Love New York: I loathe this song. It’s the worst on the album and probably one of her worst ever. I don’t think it fits with the album, it’s very “pick me” to me. I have seen her live shows twice in NYC and yes, it elevates her I think compared to others I’ve seen. I hate this song.

Future Lovers: I really like this song but mostly due to it being the opener of the Confessions tour mixed with I Feel Love, and I just thought it was so well done. So when this song hits, I’m reminded to listen to the better live version.

I’m a huge fan of just reading too—I like to get lost in the world of the story and not leave a trail of breadcrumbs to map my way. I wish more kids were!

Dr. Jane Goodall filmed an interview with Netflix in March 2025 that she understood would only be released after her death.

It’s not mandatory for my students but I wouldn’t discourage it. Technically we provide the novels so they aren’t allowed to write in them. I try to allow my students to do what’s best for them—if taking notes after helps, do it. If post-it’s help, do it. If voice notes help, do it.

Sorry: while I like the original track, I LOVE Pet Shop Boys Maxi Mix. I’m surprised this didn’t chat higher than it did.

Me to the husband: if they all take their wigs off, I’m out of here.

Our neighborhood hosts a yearly art and craft fair that attracts 600 artists and tens of thousands of people and we had lunch on the main strip at a local venue and we were the only non-middle aged or elderly white women in the place and I immediately thought about them:

To be fair, there are all sorts of reasons to annotate a text. My 10th graders will read 6-7 (ugh lol) novels this year and sometimes marking a text with questions, random thoughts, surprises and things you love or loathe keeps them engaged in the story too. But I’m a rare teacher in my dept.

Get Together: it’s hard for me to dislike any track on Confessions since it’s one, all dance, and two, so connected to my bartending era and my nocturnal existence for 16 years—drinks, my best friends and coworkers, and Madonna.

Ok treated the husband to the listening party video album making of documentary thing and and it actually helped me to appreciate the album more and I’d say that 7 of the 12 tracks I enjoy quite a bit.

If Taylor wants to resonate with teens, they’re really into 90s feel good songs. The new album was a missed opportunity to kick it up a notch—nostalgia for millennials and retro feel good vibes for the Gen Zers. Anyway I knowingly married a Swifty so I won’t be allowed to listen to anything else.

Hung Up: one of Madonna’s strongest lead singles. Gay fave ABBA? Check. Danceable? Check. Video that gets people talking? Check. Straight people singing along even? Check. Confessions is a great album and this starts it off with one of its best tracks.

Easy Ride: the final track on American Life is actually in the upper tier for me and it has everything to do with the beat drop at the 2 minute mark. Next up:
