We do have a 12.8kWh battery, which will help. HA will force charge it during the offpeak period if rain is likely. If there is insufficient PV energy to heat the water, it will pull energy from the battery before it uses grid power.

I was hoping they could supply me with a Zigbee or Z-wave relay that I could control with Home Assistant. But apparently the high current (20A) is the problem. So we will get a timer installed. I'll set it to heat water during peak PV generation times and our offpeak period to cover cloudy days.
