There’s a chance I might be doing my dissertation/final project on echo chambers in decentralised media, specifically referring to bluesky.
I hope I get to because that sounds so interesting and I loveeee looking at and analysing large data sets and human behaviour

Yeah that’s a valid concern.
If it were me, I would personally suggest sticking to a more ‘popular’ (and ‘beginner friendly’) Linux distro, as these distros tend to have a larger community base.
This lends itself to more detailed documentation, online resources and general community help :)

And for what it’s worth, I would argue that Linux being open source and continuously improved by the community makes it more secure than windows, as any minor security concern is likely to be caught and patched quickly.

I haven’t had a single issue with Linux security. It is more secure than windows 10 will be when Microsoft stop supporting it in October.
And if you were ever worried, there are guides online about keeping your Linux OS secure. With such a large community base comes a lot of resources and help :)

I don’t use windows on my laptop anymore (I have strong preference for Linux as a coder) but when I did, I never experienced this issue ! And I used the hell out of my laptop (and still do). It must be >5 years old now
