One of the myths of corporate or centrist governance is that it’s more responsible and data-driven. And yet our beloved corporate Wilmington mayor is just making up phantom homeless people from Philly to justify a crackdown that doesn’t address root causes

Don't worry, they still passed a couple amendments to water it down and take a couple dozen million away for no reason

I'm very excited for this session because I do think it's going to be a great test to see where we are on the "fiscal responsibility" vs "corporate friendliness" front at this stage in Delaware politics. I'm going to be a bit contrarian and guess it's the former at this point, but we'll see

I know so many people who have been laid off in the last year, and most of them have not found jobs yet (I keep a list of people I know who are unemployed or in horrible job situations in case I see things that come up). Not the kind of thing that helps people stay calm in the face of fascism

Under-discussed in the combo blue wave/Dem Tea Party is the active hollowing out of the college-educated workforce through public policy, AI, and general recession conditions which is accelerating the pre-existing trend towards lefty economic ideas and anti-establishment political ideas
🚨 CNBC: "Announced corporate job cuts surging past 1 million so far this year, with 153,000 new layoffs just in October according to Challenger. That is the worst October since 2003."

Didn't want to speak too soon, but as soon as the people starting forecasting doom for Democrats among Latinos, it made me go back to the 2004 to compare.

None of these things are permanent when conditions change, and we can not abandon the necessity of organizing a multiracial working class base.

I'm more used to a little group of Facebook DE influencers and they're much more staunchly right-wing, so this is a pleasant(?) surprise

It’s possible I’m missing something, but in my research going back to the 1940s, you can explain the vast majority of the growth of the state budget through either (1) there were more people or (2) the federal government gave us free money to use
Following his usual practice, in his article, Spotlight’s EIC Jacob Owens takes the GOP talking points as gospel.

The GOP line is that state *appropriations* have risen over the last few years - out of control spending!

But the *context* is that the state was appropriating *federal funds*.

I admittedly hadn’t had much interaction with Delaware’s Muslim community until I worked with @madinahfordelaware.bsky.social, but now when I see the same images meant to fear-monger about Islam, I just see the faces of friends and family. We could all afford to expand our circle of love right now.

I think what’s particularly moving about this is that it’s an explicit defense of acceptance and embracing different cultures and people that I grew up believing and see every day in our communities but hasn’t gotten a full-throated political defense in years
The dream of every Muslim is simply to be treated the same as any other New Yorker.

And yet, for too long, we have been told to ask for less than that, and endure hatred and bigotry in the shadows.

No more.
