Runsa hillfort lies high above the Lake Mälaren in Uppland in Sweden. During the early Iron Age there was a farm inside the walls. At Runsa are the largest boat setting graves in Sweden. In the photo the excavations in 2015. #HillfortsWednesday

A #Roman wooden ship, excavated from the bottom of the Rhine near Utrecht (Netherlands) in 2003. It sank about 1850-1800 years ago - probably very quickly, as a lot of artefacts were found inside, suggesting the crew were not able to salvage them in time 🏺 #AncientBlueSky

I’m almost finished reading @elodieharper.bsky.social historical fiction novel, Boudicca’s Daughter. I was not expecting the story this wonderful author has written. It’s an original take on the story the Roman victors left for us, and the subsequent creation of Boudicca and her daughter victims.

A bonus post for this #MosaicMonday. Ever puzzled over why Neptune has crab claws and Oceanus has a trident in some RB mosaics? My thoughts have just been published in the latest Journal of Mosaic Research. Open access, so feel free to enjoy! 1/2

Some of my favourite my favourite retellings/reworkings of Ancient Greek stories and myths. I never get weary of these stories from the past.

Bronze pennanular brooch with inlaid terminals, circa AD 450-550, was the latest object deposited in the Spring at Bath.
Late Roman, probably made in Ireland; birds and fish on the terminals might be associated with the goddess Sulis Minerva.
