A rare occurrence today - shadows have been created by a big ball of fire in the sky - I believe it’s called ‘the sun’.

Progress so far - this linoprint tells the jaw-dropping 1930s tale of the Vicar of Stiffkey, in the 1930s. It involves north Norfolk, ladies of the night from the East End of London, a defrocking and an ignominious end courtesy of a lion at the seaside. Listen to therestishistory.com/episodes/a-1...

Love IS all - sprinkle some around as you go about your day and the world will be a better place (your cooking will be tastier too!).

More detail - I’ve had to get my tiny magnifying glass out. More cutting to do…

Just read that Bud Cort, who played Harold in ‘Harold and Maude’ has died. A brilliantly quirky, life-affirming Hal Ashby film, unlike anything else. It has a great Cat Stevens soundtrack and Bud Cort and Ruth Gordon were both excellent in it.

I’ve finished carving all the lines - I’ll be adding the texture and letting in the light tomorrow. Here’s a bit of the carved detail so far.

Something to bear in mind if you’re heading to west London - the Albert Bridge has just been closed to motor vehicle traffic due to maintenance concerns. Hopefully, they’ll get it up and running soon - the Hammersmith Bridge has been closed since 2019!

For February, I thought I’d make an insanely detailed linocut. This is a small part of it. Can I carve it?!

It’s a universal truth that long after the Christmas decorations have been returned to the loft, you’ll find the one you missed. Here’s mine this year, found today and having a last moment aflame, before it’s consigned to the dark for the next 10 months.

A couple more from the sketchbook… I’m working on a new linocut, but it’s early days, so nothing to show just yet. It’s also Friday evening, so putting the pencil down & picking a G&T up!

In the brief snippet of sun we had yesterday, I did some gardening and came across these gorgeous velvety wisteria seed pods. They take 10-15 years to produce flowers from seeds however!

Well, that’s the mould finished. Not the most elegant object! Now to wait for it to cure for a day or two before testing it out.

There’s a lion underneath there somewhere. More mould-making today!

Here’s another of print & sketch. St. Edmund’s Wolf, protecting the severed head of the King after a Viking attack, until it is miraculously joined with his body again. Quite the story.

Dusting down the sketchbook to start a new drawing for a print. Here are two previous sketches and the linoprints they became.

Came across this photo I took at the beginning of January. Tucked away down a tiny cobbled mews in the middle of London, the perfect cottage, a stone’s throw or two from Hyde Park.

‘And what happened to the wild boar you sculpted in black wax and then made a Jesmonite cast from?’ I hear you ask. Well, having served its purpose, the wax original has been unceremoniously squished into a ball, ready to turn into something else.
