There are also four wrap and turn short rows to help the edging get around the corners. All of these things are fully explained in the pattern which is both written and charted.

Crenellate was first published in @knitnow in March 2025 and is now out as an individual pattern!

More fun begins with the crenellated garter stitch edging! The shape is created by casting on & casting off. At the end of every RS row you knit the last edging stitch with the next shawl stitch to join the edging to the shawl - they are different colours so it’s easy to tell when to do this.

Crenellate is available from my website, Payhip and Ravelry stores.

The pattern is a top-down triangular shawl with a textural design created with knit & purl stitches. Yarn overs increase the stitch count. When you get near the border you add the second colour for some stocking stitch stripes.

I just keep referring to this, because I honestly can't think of anything more convincing than Sir Patrick Stewart and co perfectly and hilariously explaining it in a Life of Brian homage.

I realise that there are lots of erudite and entirely correct reasons against leaving the ECHR, but surely the main one to be repeated ad nauseam is "from the people who told you Brexit would solve all of your problems - how did that work out for you?"

2/2 Beginning with a garter tab (video on my YouTube channel if this is new to you), the body of the shawl is worked with just knit & purl stitches & yarn overs. A small stripe links the 2 colours before the garter stitch edging begins.

The pattern is fully written and charted.

Crenellate Shawl relaunches as an individual pattern tomorrow morning!

This shawl uses knit and purl stitches for the pattern and yarn overs for the shaping.

It starts with a garter tab (video on my YouTube channel!) and is a relaxing knit. The pattern is charted as well as fully written.

Today I added a video to my YouTube channel: working a garter tab as the start to a top-down shawl.

After talking to folk recently where they’d not heard of a garter tab, I thought it would be useful!

Many patterns use this, including Crenellate which is out on Friday.

Crenellate is a large top-down triangular shawl with satisfying textural design created with knit & purl stitches. The knitted-on garter stitch border has its own ornate crenellation!

Crenellate will be relaunched as an individual pattern soon, having first been published in Knit Now in March 2025.
