Empowering autistic young people's voices is key to creating communities which are neuro-inclusive. Pupil voice and person-centred approaches should be key pillars of school practice and Educational Psychologists can support school staff emancipate the lived experiences of all neurodivergent pupils

A lack of awareness of how autistic girls experience school wellbeing is no longer an excuse for an absence of person-centred adjustments and support. Understanding how autistic girls conceptualise school wellbeing also guides early intervention work and whole school neuro-affirming practice.

Loving some thinking and creative time to dive into projects over the summer. On the list: neuro affirming language guide for our Luton schools, EBSA information gathering template to inspire school staff to gather pupil views and new graphic templates for visually accessible consultation meetings.

A beautifully written and powerful article Tiffany. I am sharing with colleagues here in Luton to help our school leaders reframe ‘behaviour’ and support neuro affirming practice.

Where in the country are you based Emma? I can highly recommend Luton. I did my TEP training here and have stayed. The team and the schools are amazing ❤️

I write letters to high school students summarising our pupil views work and ask them to review them prior to consultation (if they don’t want to attend). Their views are central in the conversation. For primary, I try and write a one page visual summary as often as possible. It’s respectful.

💡 Thought-provoking ideas on how to talk about neurodiversity without relying on medical/deficit language - a model for us from Sonny Jane Wise in the form of the Neurodiversity Smorgasbord 🤩

How do you speak of difference?

I headed to Hobbycraft for a mix of beads and buttons. Good luck!

Privileged to share research today with the EP community at the DECP TEP conference. The power of participatory research design to emancipate and empower autistic girls’ voices shines through. A school framework for supporting autistic girls wellbeing was developed with autistic co-researchers.
