A friend on fb recently posted someone's "thoughts on yesterday's executive order mandating the adoption and use of 'generative AI' in k-12 education" -- Bsky friends, what are they talking about? Could someone please post news links to the executive order? I've seen/heard nothing about this.

I’m about to board my flight to El Salvador, where I hope to meet with senior government officials to discuss the return of Kilmar Abrego Garcia.

I also hope to see Kilmar and check on his condition — and remind him that we won’t stop fighting until he’s home.

White House: “We spoke with the big three auto dealers. We are going to give a one-month exemption on any autos coming through USMCA,” the 2018 United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement.
My confusion: Why isn't every story on the tariffs pointing out that the USA is violating the existing trade treaty?

It's easier to freeze cin rolls and they come back from freezing beautifully, so you are making a right decision here

Oh, whoopsie, "U.S. relies on imports for over 95 per cent of its potash fertilizer needs, with nearly 90 per cent of that coming from Canada." Quick check: Do farms require fertilizer?

"the right to fight on," or a cease-fire with Russia that comes with no guarantees for the future, or bare continued existence in Ukraine’s reduced form.

What is a good word for extortionist demands?

But referring to US demands as “deals” is a strange choice on the part of news outlets. A deal connotes something positive that benefits the recipient and reduces their costs. The proposals by Trump have included guarantees for American access to Ukraine’s rare earth minerals in exchange for

Stop calling it a deal
“A peace deal.” “Commitment to a deal.” Although Canada and the USA are at odds at the moment, here’s something they have in common: In both countries, their major newspapers repeatedly refer to the proposals of President Trump to the leader of Ukraine as deals. 1/3

Careful, man, the needs of the many outweigh the needs of the one!

The breezy comment by Bezos that anyone can find anything on the interwebz is grating, and in keeping with the trend toward replacing the judgement of persons with expertise, training, and caring --- who needs an editor when we have whatevs! Alas. 2/2

The Washington Post turns away from editorial traditions that I have always valued: judicious editorial selection and provision of an array of perspectives worth reading, that express what the section editor and team believe to be worthwhile and informative ways of looking at current issues. 1/2

we don’t talk enough about this aspect of our current moment: the sadness and grief of losing institutions that were once so important to us, because they proved unworthy of our support. and it is real grief, because we lose what those institution might have been, if only they had been better.

Jeff Bezos email to WaPo staff:

I’m writing to let you know about a change coming to our opinion pages.
We are going to be writing every day in support and defense of two pillars: personal liberties and free markets... viewpoints opposing those pillars will be left to be published by others.

It bothers me every time someone says everyone to the left of Republican isn't trying or resisting or not 'up off the mat.' So this was a relief to read. www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/202...
