If Uncle Steve’s end game was the casino, this offseason makes a lot of sense.

Edwin Díaz has been one of my favorite players to cover. His entrances became a fun part of our broadcast — and, if we’re being honest, probably the reason you know my name at all.

Hollywood just stole a closer who was already built for the movies.

From Trumpets To Sad Trombones: My Emotional Journey with the New York Metropolitans
December 9, 2025 at 6:07 PM
I wished someone a happy holiday season in an email today and got back the response, “Have a glittery one!” LEGENDARY. TOP-TIER EMAILING.

Cast up
the heart flops over
gasping ‘Love’

a foolish fish which tries draw
its breath from flesh of air

And no one there to hear its death
among the sad bushes
where the world rushes by
in a blather of asphalt and delay

(Ferlinghetti poem I loved and memorized in 10th grade, and it never left!)
Which lines of poetry live rent-free in your head?

If you have also tried to google whatever happened to Q Lazzarus, know that there's a doc all about her on Criterion right now and it's FULL of music she recorded but never released!

This Thanksgiving I am most thankful for the woman who recorded the E train announcement at 74th/Roosevelt about the connections to Lahgwahdia Airport; as a person who did not actually know there was an R in LaGuardia until approximately 9th grade, I feel so represented.

I went to an exhibit on the psalms in medieval art and manuscripts at Morgan Library today, and boy, did I find some great little guys painted on these incantation bowls from Nippur from the 5th to 7th centuries.

Saw Patty Harrison tonight and it was so bonkers and so funny, the guy behind me walked out apologizing to his pal for hitting him so many times while laughing.

She is absolutely fearless and also absolutely, to her core, a 13-year-old pervert who has just gotten unfettered access to the internet.

I remember protesting outside Schumer’s house in 2016, fruitlessly begging him to oppose Trump appointments and policies. I cannot believe we are in the same place with the same feckless leadership nearly a decade later—except this time, people will lose their health insurance, and some will die.

UNTIL IT’S DONE, Ep. 5: Vito Marcantonio

There are many who dismiss our vision for New York as impossible. To them, I say we need look only to our past for proof of how we can shape the future.

Tomorrow is Election Day. And this is the final Until It's Done of our campaign.

At this point I think it’s fair to say that most of the criticisms being lobbed at Mamdani are not out of genuine anger or surprise at any new revelations about him but are rather a transparently bad faith smear campaign to punish him for being a successful politician while Muslim

I will TAKE UP ARMS with the older Reichardthead lady in my row at the Angelika and wage a holy and righteous war the HEATHENS in the row behind us who audibly groaned and writhed through The Mastermind and left screaming “THAT WAS THE WORST MOVIE I HAVE EVER SEEN” and “NOTHING FUCKING HAPPENED”

Waiting for famously interactive performer Natalie Palamides’s WEER to start. I joked to Sam earlier that I’d bought us seats outside the “splash zone”…and arrived to see, lo and behold, as god is my witness, they are giving out ponchos in the front row.

Just bought tickets to three things—Kelly Reichardt’s heist movie (!!!) The Mastermind, the new Dog Day Afternoon stage adaptation, and Elevator Repair Service’s Ulysses at the Public—that make me so happy to live in this city. It’s a real gift.
