The crack bothers me. It’s been there for years, so it’s not as if the house is on the verge of collapsing around us, but lately it’s been bothering me. I lie awake in the early hours, when dim light throws feeble shadows to fuddle my brain, knowing that it is meandering across the bedroom ceiling.
