Alaska’s great 1964 earthquake did not simply “repeat” past behavior. Over the last ~2,000 years, lake sediments reveal mostly smaller earthquakes confined to fewer fault sections. This shows a study by Belgian (VLIZ, Ugent), American & Austrian scientists. Read more 🔗 tinyurl.com/yfe7943h

Our #land2sea shaking studies workshop in #Taiwan was a success! Many great discussions on the way forward for subaquatic #paleoseismology, inspiring talks and a fantastic field trip showing the impacts of the devastating 1999 Chi-Chi #earthquake.

Such a wonderful week at the @ialipa2025.bsky.social conference, and what better location than at the shores of #LacBourget! 🏔️

And as if all the great #lakescience 🎤🗺️ wasn't inspiring enough, there was also local #wine tasting 🍷, a boat tour 🛥️ and #seismics and #coring demos! 👷🏻‍♀️
