Credit unions change lives. But too often they are held back by unnecessary red tape and a lack of support.

I’ve written for Parliament News about how we can unlock their full potential and why that matters for communities across the country.

Credit unions could be doing much more if we cut the red tape holding them back and supported them properly | Parliament Politics Magazine
Before I ever had the chance to spend, I was already saving with a credit union.

Great to join Councillor James McPhilemy at Pollock Hall on Saturday for the first of the two Condorrat community clean-ups.

Big thanks to everyone who helped organise and to the council team for collecting everything afterwards. Always good to get stuck in and do our bit!

Every MP the FBU met made it clear we oppose these cuts.

The Fire Brigades Union were at Westminster this week calling for sustained investment in our fire and rescue services.

I met with reps from Lanarkshire, to stand against cuts that put lives at risk such as fewer firefighters, slower response times and the withdrawal of appliances.
The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service is holding public consultation events across Scotland as part of their Service Delivery Review.

The Cumbernauld event takes place on Wednesday 6 August, 6–8pm at Greenfaulds Community Facility, Lochinvar Road, G67 4AR.
This Alcohol Awareness Week, I’m backing @CAPUKTweets and their latest campaign tackling the myth that giving kids alcohol helps them drink responsibly. The evidence shows it does more harm than good.

Let’s support alcohol-free childhoods.

It was a pleasure to speak at the welcome reception of the UNISON Labour Link conference in Glasgow.

A great chance to connect with activists, catch up with friends, and reflect on the importance of trade union voices in shaping change.
This week marks 30 years since the genocide at Srebrenica.

We remember the 8,000+ lives lost, the survivors, and those still fighting for justice. I was honoured to sign the memorial book as a pledge to remember the past and act for a better future.

Spoke in Parliament today about the threat to Cumbernauld Fire Station.

After responding to major incidents in our town, our fire service deserves investment, not more pressure. I urged the UK Government to press the Scottish Government to act.
One year on, it’s been an honour to stand up for Cumbernauld and Kirkintilloch - both in Parliament and out in our communities.

Thank you to everyone who’s met with me, invited me to visit, or shared your thoughts over the past 12 months.

Here’s to the work ahead. 👇
I’ve shared my response to the Pathways to Work Green Paper.

The current welfare system is not working for too many people. Reform must be fair, person-centred, and rooted in dignity.

Brilliant afternoon at the CACE Community Open Day in Cumbernauld yesterday. A fantastic celebration of local support, creativity and connection.

Great to meet the team and hear more about the impact they make all year round. Thanks for the warm welcome (and the home baking)!
You can watch my question to the Health Secretary below. I asked whether the NHS has the funding to deliver assisted dying alongside its core priorities like reducing waiting lists.

He confirmed there is no money allocated to set up the service under this Bill.
My statement on today’s vote on the Terminally Ill Adults (End of Life) Bill.

I’ve raised concerns throughout about the lack of safeguards, the impact on vulnerable people, and the absence of funding for implementation.

I will be voting against the Bill.
🌟 Looking forward to joining the CACE Community Open Day this Saturday!

Pop by for home baking, raffles, Animal Magic encounters, and a chance to hear more about the brilliant work CACE does in our community. 🐢🧁🐰

📍Suite 2, Arca Business Centre, 12–3pm
MPs are being asked to vote on a Bill that could reshape the NHS, without seeing the final version.

I’ve joined colleagues in calling for more time to scrutinise the End of Life Bill and its impact on vulnerable people.

We must get this right.
Great to be at this year’s Cumbernauld Gala Day. A fantastic celebration of community spirit and the people working hard to support others every day.

Thanks to everyone who made it happen.
The rain didn’t stop Kilsyth turning out in force for this year’s Civic Week celebrations.

It was brilliant to catch up with so many local groups and volunteers doing incredible work in the community.

Thanks to all who made it such a success!
The Assisted Dying Bill returns to Parliament today for its final vote at Report Stage.

I’ve raised serious concerns about the lack of safeguards. It should never be easier to die than to live with support.

I will be voting against the Bill.
📉 NHS waiting lists are now at their lowest level in two years under Labour leadership.

*Except in Scotland where the SNP Scottish Government continues to preside over some of the longest waits in the UK.

Scottish Labour will deliver the change our NHS desperately needs.
📢 Labour has delivered £9.1 billion in extra funding for public services in Scotland.

This means:
▪️ More support for schools & GPs
▪️ Investment in social care & youth services
▪️ Funding certainty for councils

The Scottish Government must now match this ambition to fix our public services
