in fact, everything elly accuses kumi of, she does herself before entering hypnos tower!!! she's afraid of dealing honestly w the party when being recruited, pretending she didn't hear them talking badly abt tsutomu, and blames toro's meltdown on ayase, and thanatos tower's bad atmosphere on yuriko

kumi's deepest issue is loneliness, something every p1 char struggles w, but what elly says after kumi reveals, yet can't admit, to this, shows she's terrified of admitting the same. if she confesses she's lonely, it shatters her poised image, making her seem sad or desperate rather than in control

Kumi in Persona 1 PSP, in the Dream World, where she says, "No matter what I did or didn't do, no one gave me a hint of praise!"

Kumi adds, "I tried my best, really I did! But everyone around me just..." She trails off, turning to Hypnos to soothe her loneliness instead of facing said fact.

Eriko Kirishima a few dialogue bubbles after, saying, "Any problem of yours is solved by blaming someone else from a safe distance." Elly does this with Ayase after Toro's meltdown before the towers start.

what's worse though imo is that katsuya's still subject to the same strong conviction, but there's no rumour [wang long] talking abt his intuition, so he's immediately at a disadvantage despite having clues. it's no wonder he's so burned out and irritated, while the other katsuya can be relaxed,,,

he'd legiterally bite his other self for believing in leylines and taking the rumour shit seriously from the jump even w philemon involved. out of the EP trio, he's the MOST changed out of the three, but it's purely bc he has to rely on intuition more and lacks concrete clues (tatsuya seeing sudou)

katsuya's such a cynic in the IS tl and it's directly related to a) tatsuya's trauma at the shrine (giving him a more focused goal at the PD) and b) not being subject to kashihara for three years straight. diverging from the truth is dangerous. he knows who hurt his brother and convicted his father!
