Two of my UK trains were delayed by more than 30 mins, one because a person unfortunately died on a train ahead of mine and it stopped all trains behind it, and the train company is reimbursing me 50% of each fare because that’s the fucking law here smdh

Went back to the curry mile for dinner. Craving hummus, we picked a random ‘middle eastern’ restaurant with a 4.8 rating online from the dozens lining both sides of the street. Turns out it’s Palestinian✨

@bobbby.online the Museum of Science and Industry in Manchester is right up your alley. There’s a replica of the Manchester Baby, basically the first computer with RAM. Manchester also pioneered mass production of electrical wire, among other things. The retired IT guy, now docent, was a hoot🤓
Geoff Tootill
Lancashire-born Geoff Tootill was an electronics engineer and part of the team that built the
'Baby' computer.
As a child, Tootill built his own radio, using it to listen to music at night.
In the Second World War he helped develop electronic radar systems used to defend Britain from air raids.
This experience taught Tootill how to design and build complex electronic devices and get them working. Tootill used these skills to help develop Baby.

We went on with this process of adding units and making the whole lot do something together at every stage until we got to a stage where we'd made a computer: The Manchester Baby, also called the Small-Scale Experimental Machine (SSEM),was the first electronic stored-program computer. It was built at the University of Manchester by Frederic C. Williams, Tom Kilburn, and Geoff Tootill, and ran its first program on 21 June 1948 The baby computer commands. They only subtracted and did not add or multiply Bedsin’s wire rolling mill, 1872

In the shadow of the Manchester Cathedral there’s a memorial for victims of the bombing at Manchester Arena after the Ariana Grande concert in 2022. What’s cool is the tree in the middle has several birds nests and it’s so peaceful and quiet you can hear the baby birds chirping 🕊️
The Glade of Light memorial, Manchester, UK The Glade of Light
On 22 May 2017, 22 people - concertgoers and their loved ones waiting for them at Manchester Arena - had their lives taken in a terrorist atrocity. Many others sustained physical or mental injuries, some life-changing.
The Glade of Light has been created as a memorial garden.
It's a place to reflect, to remember and a lasting testament to love. We will never forget.

The Atlantic isn’t credible journalism anymore. They always had a bias but at least they admitted it. Now they think everyone’s just stupid
