I'm at the Focus on Melanoma Meeting as a trustee today. Even as a non scientific/medical/pharmalogical person it's incredibly fascinating to learn about developments in the field. #fonm25 @melanomafocus.bsky.social

From October, the TTPA means most advertising platforms are banning "political ads" in EU.
HOWEVER as far as I can tell, only Meta takes this to include "social" ads. Google & Microsoft are only banning election/legislation specific ads, not "social isses".
Is this how we're all interpreting it?

Great session on AI history, capability, landscape, terminology, ethics, and what's coming next from @johnennew.dev today, thank you!

If anyone hasn't seen... fresh round of restrictions and warnings appearing in medical charity Meta ad accounts kicking in from September, affecting custom conversions and audiences. Good luck out there - get in touch if you need a hand #Meta

Yesterday while training for my MCR half in May I experienced the "legs and feet feel like stumps" for the first time - sending all the power, hydration and strong stomach vibes to all #marathon runners today, esp those for @cftrustuk.bsky.social & @melanomafocus.bsky.social 🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻

The entshittification of #Google continues.
Lately Garmin decided to switch to a freemium model, offering a paid subscription tier when all features had previously been free.
This blog then published an April Fools post that Garmin were reversing their position... and Google published it as News.

What are Manchester fundraisers talking about?
I had the joy of attending & presenting at @fundeverywhere.bsky.social Fundraising Everywhere Manchester. I've put together a round up of the day.
Thanks for putting on the event - I look forward to the next one!

Kayley stood inthe corner of a room, smiling and presenting. There is a TV screen behind her with a slide on it, saying, "We are the digital experience agency for changemakers", refering to her company, manifesto. There is a wooden floor and a string of fairy lights. There is a large window behind her, where you can see grass through it. A table with coffee cups is in the foreground.

We'll also hear from Rachel from @nationaltrust.bsky.social about corporate partnerships, as well as the all-important coffee and networking with other fundraisers facing the same challenges as you are.
There's a handful of tickets left - see you in the morning!
a manifesto branded front cover of a slide deck. The slide reads, "The importance of donor-first communications, Fundraising Everywhere Manchester".

Off to London for a lovely UX pitch as well as personal development conversations - clearly in the mood for planning and big thinking this week

Excellent train entertainment today courtesy of @thecharityshow.bsky.social talking @parkrunuk.bsky.social (combining 2 of my fave topics) & Period Power 💪🏻

Got my ticket for @fundeverywhere.bsky.social Manchester Fundraisers meet up this month!
Any other MCR based fundraisers heading over? Let's hope for sunshine as what a venue @nationaltrust.bsky.social at Castlefield Viaduct
Feel free to say hi or let me know anyone who fancies a coffee huddle ☕
A photo in portrait mode, with a close up of two gorgeous flowers, with pink and yellow daisy style petals. They're surrounded by green grass, and in the background out of focus is a metal, industrial style railway bridge, with Manchester's skyscrapers in the distance.

That's all for today! Please enjoy Whiskey as reward for sticking with this thread :)
A fluffy tabby cat with white shoulders sat directly on a laptop keyword, partially covering the screen. What's on the screen isn't relevant, it's just some out-of-date restaurant Googling. The cat is the focus.

On the other hand - like any onboarding with a new segment of users the key is balance & long term planning. Engage, inform, inspire - resist the urge to come on too keen too soon! Keep this audience separate. You’ll still need to exclude users who hard opt-out to receive further communications.
kayleydempsey.bsky.social
If you somehow, magically, have the spare time, I’d start working on a campaign now, ready to launch as soon as the legislation passes. It could be a busy one-off month for charity communications, and there’s likely to be a first mover advantage.
kayleydempsey.bsky.social
What could this mean? It creates huge potential for a new pool of warm users you haven’t been able to contact before - one estimate indicates it could be worth £290m to the sector. However, every charity around you will be competing for the same share of wallet www.civilsociety.co.uk/news/290m-be...
£290m benefit to charities hailed as ‘soft opt-in’ marketing bill change adopted

kayleydempsey.bsky.social
On the other side, the Data Use & Access Bill is currently in review, that could allow charities to contact users based on “soft opt in”. E.g. if you make a donation, you won’t have to check a box saying you’re happy to be contacted to start receiving comms from that charity

Charity websites have been caught out on this before, and it’s only a matter of time before journalists explore this topic again. Please, please, please - if you’re using any kind of tracking or advertising, make sure you are compliant! www.theguardian.com/society/2023...

This time it's gambling websites under fire for having faulty cookie consent. For some reason I had a feeling lately that #privacy and tracking in marketing was going to jump from “fairly high profile at the moment” to “very high profile at the moment” and here we are again 🧵

What's on your mind this week? Things we've discussed:
- Ongoing impact of AI overviews on SEO
- Growing trend of charities taking more hands on marketing work in house
- Audiences value transparency for donations but mistrust fixed overheads costs
- Joy in fantastic community fundraising income!
