Doug Ford’s new housing bill has been sold as efficiency reform, yet it prioritizes landlords over tenants. Long-term renters will face faster evictions, fewer protections, and higher rents while corporate landlords consolidate even more control of an already deeply financialized market.
Landlords want your rent to go up. Doug Ford is making it happen
Ford may think that disappearing tenants and their unions from the LTB will disappear them from the city, but it won’t. Tenants and the growing tenant union movement in Ontario have been successfully ...

Bill 60 is a vicious, one-sided tenancy legislation. It will cause widespread suffering and loss of life. Anyone who stays neutral is complicit. In this @thestar.com article, I focus on why mayors should fight it.

Bill 60 still:
- Limits a tenant’s ability to raise new issues at an LTB arrears hearing unless the tenant paid 50% of the rent arrears claimed in the landlord's application.
- Provides the AG with authority to limit how a final decision or order of the LTB can be reviewed.

Bill 60 still:
- Allows landlords who have provided 120 days notice for an Landlord’s Own Use eviction, to not to have to provide compensation to the tenants or offer another unit.
- Shortens the Arrears Eviction Notice Period from 14 to 7 days—making evictions even faster.

Canada’s deficit is projected to rise by $17B, yet ordinary folks face cuts to essential services while the ultra-rich and corporations avoid billions in taxes. Closing loopholes and taxing offshore wealth could fully fund health care, housing, and education—proving the crisis is a political choice.

The theatrical setting for #Carney's announcement on combatting crime brings a number words to mind but subtlety isn't one of them. Is he trying to appease Trump or make him jealous?
