Husband, father, occasional writer, lover of music, cheese and all things spooky.
Wrote two novels during lockdown. The Burnt Watcher and Visitation. A third escapes me.
Attention all folklore-shaped people. I am pulling together a solo table-top rpg and would love some input on British folklore, particularly medieval.
Would anyone be interested in helping an old man?

The Government is planning to send King Charles to the US to celebrate with Trump. But after his latest insults to British troops, sending Charles, Head of the British Armed Forces, to honour Trump, would be a slap in the face to veterans. you.38degrees.org.uk/petitions/ca...
Call off the King’s visit to the US for the 250th anniversary of America's independence
With the current political chaos in the US and Trump’s failure to adhere to international norms, and given his apparent obsession with the Monarchy, calling off this visit would send a powerful messag...

A little good news. The Greens took Horsley council in a by-election yesterday. They took it from Reform UK Ltd.

When Farage was too ill to be on Kuensberg's show he was actually going to host a dinner at the Heartland Institute, a non-profit group of science deniers who believe that smoking is harmless, that climate change isn't real and that the NHS should be privatised.

Just got the cutest, littlest ereader ever. No more waiting around in fields for fog to clear whilst twiddling my thumbs. Now I can wait for the fog to clear and read Gormenghast.

I remember the BBC dragging Angela Rayner over the coals for her monetary mismanagement. Strange how there is not a peep about Farage's £380,000 17 times "error".

Trump is like a concussed, virtiolic goldfish. The ONLY things that matter to him are spite and who spoke to him last. There is no dealing with him as he will change tack within hours.
It's about time world leaders understood that and actually said "no".

Taco Trump in full bluster at Davos.

It amazes me that news outlets can quote Farage when he has his nose so far up Trump's arse.
"Mr Farage went on to say "mmpph mmmphh mmmphh"".

Currently reading A Canticle for Leibowitz for the first time and enjoying it far more than I anticipated.
I might even admit to loving it.

I am in the exciting phase of developing a solo ttrpg: the phase where almost everything I write leads to another thought or aspect of the game I had not considered.
Great fun.
Although the challenge comes when I have to stop adding...

At what point can the world just tell Trump to fuck off? I assume that at some point the US justice system will wake up and indict him over Epstein, but so far they only seem to want to go after the one woman involved.

So what now is the difference between Reform UK Ltd and the Tories, apart from the overt racism, vaccine skepticism and the fact that we should never trust either of them?
After all, Farage stated that we should never trust a Tory...and he should know as he has hired a shedload of them.

So, here am I, an atheist, developing a ttrpg about undertaking a pilgrimage in medieval Europe.

Now that Jenrick has gone to the darker side can we call the Tories and Reform Con 1 and Con 2?

Seven hours driving, five hours on site walking around Wilmington and Hove.
I am getting too old for this and my body is letting me know.

Net migration to the UK is at a 20 year low. And yet 67%of people believe that it is high and increasing. At what point will the media, and the BBC in particular, start telling the truth?
January 13, 2026 at 11:28 AM
How times change. From finding Farage "offensive &racist" to kneeling before him, mouth open.
January 12, 2026 at 3:21 PM
Remember when Farage stated that we should "never trust a Tory"? How many ex-Tories are now in Reform? Should we trust them now?

Immigration to the UK has dropped significantly. Tax receipts are tgerefore down. Taxes will have to rise to make up the shortfall.
Will someone explain this to Faragists?

Isn't it odd that Musk's verion of free speech is "anything that doesn't affect my profit"?

Oh look. Yet another Reform councillor suspended because he is racist.
I am losing count...

I have just received a copy of "Letters from a lost Uncle" by Mervyn Peake. It is illustrated on every page by Peake's glorious, wonderful, strange artwork. It is weird, funny and a thing of absolute joy.
