This is the difference in a day in half in the yellowing of the leaves of the yellow birch tree in our back yard. The leaves are turning autumn yellow quickly and I bet that by Monday or Tuesday, the tree may be yellow and bare, with all of the leaves on the lawn. Time will tell.

Crème fraîche is one of my favourite things in the world. I've had it on lots of desserts, and one of the best, best things that I have put in my mouth is a tartiflette pizza from the Savoy Alps area of France. Thin crust spread with crème fraîche, onions, lardons, potato slices & Reblochon cheese.

Another video of me trying to reason with a doe & her 2 yearling fawns trespassing in our yard. A whole herd of them used to transit through our yard & the ravine, but not since I put up the electric fence to stop them eating wifey's garden. Now they just use the road to eat the acorns on the lawn.

The view of the river is quite misty in the mornings. Thursday night we had a hard frost, and as things warmed up, a mist covered the river and surrounding hills, creating a surreal, but somewhat magical autumn scene.

I was at the little library (those neighbourhood post boxes where you freely exchange books) & I saw this berry cookbook. We might need some extra desserts for Canadian Thanksgiving. I like Coeurs-à-la-Crème, Hearts of Cream (middle) but the Blackened Tuna with berries (right) is definitely not on!

We got our turkey for Canadian Thanksgiving on Monday. Almost $50 for a 16.4 pound (7.44 kilogram) turkey. Holy mackerel, the prices are out of this world! I should have taken my sand wedge to one of the wild turkeys on the golf course & I could have had one for free -Pilgrim style. Gonna brine it.

Every time the sun comes out in the alpine boreal forest of Québec, so do these adult tricycles for senior citizen outlaw-wannabees. There're more of these than you can shake a shtick at. There's even some decked out as batmobiles. Meanwhile the Harley-Davidson shop in Gatineau city of Hull closed.

As the autumn progresses in the alpine boreal forest, different places are in different stages, guessing due to microclimate & macro-geographic changes from place to place. After a luminous blaze of colour, leaves start to go brown & drop off the trees. There's still plenty of colour around though.

Dinner with family and friends tonight who cannot make it for Canadian Thanksgiving on Monday. We haven't cooked the turkey yet so it's roast beef, small potatoes, green beans and gravy (au jus) with a caramel apple pie from the local restaurant that has a food shop attached to it. Company at 6PM.

This caught my eye growing at the edge of my driveway. I have no idea what plant it is, but it grows in the wild area now filled with a garden from the 1960's gone feral with Hostas, day lilies, Solomon Seal and of course, a plethora of weeds. This could be anything, but I like its autumn colours.

To totally not waste anything from my little roasted pumpkin, I washed & dried the seeds for roasting in the convection oven. I didn't want to add spices, but I wanted a unique taste. Instead of coating them in oil, I coated them in melted butter & salt. Burnt butter Maillard reaction is delicious.

What to do with the cream, butter and spice blend that was inside the roasting pumpkin? Use it for oatmeal cookies! I went nuts. I added oatmeal, dark chocolate bits, slivered almonds, walnuts, coconut, sultana raisins, vanilla, caramel essence, tapioca starch, rice flour, brown sugar & maple syrup.
The top bowl is the buttery, creamy, pumpkin-y, spicy liquid from inside the roasting pumpkin. These are the oatmeal cookies from the liquid. A closeup of the cookies showing chocolate, almonds, sultana raisins and other stuff. They were delicious.

I poked my roasted pumpkin with a fork to see if it was done. It was. None of the cream, butter & spices leaked out. I emptied the creamy, pumpkin-y liquid into a bowl and I scooped out the pumpkin flesh. I am hoping to have enough for a pumpkin pie and a bit left over for pumpkin ravioli pasta.

So with Canadian Thanksgiving on Monday, I decided to whole roast my $1.99 pumpkin. I thought that it was just a regular one picked early. Nope, it's a small breed full of seeds. I filled it with cream, butter, cinnamon, cloves, nutmeg, ginger and allspice. Roasted in a fan oven for 1 hour at 400°F.

It was a beautiful day in the neighbourhood -- a bit chilly, but I put on my cardigan, took my computer to my outdoor office on the balcony of the house, started playing Mozart and I spent the afternoon programming a Model-Context-Protocol Server for AI LLMs while in the autumn cathedral of colour.
