Hello Newskies!

I'm a friendly author, teacher and school librarian, who dabbles a bit in politics and miscellaneous other interests. Kindness and GSOH goes down well with me.

My YA twisty thriller is a proper page turner, btw 😊📚

First DNF in a while. Shame, because I liked the premise and the start was quite engaging. Unfortunately, cluttered, stilted dialogue and unrefined exposition killed off my interest.

Then immediately DNF the next by a well-known author whom I've previously enjoyed. Same sort of reasons. 📚💙

Yes, I am exactly the right age to get a bit misty eyed over this one.

Also amused to note who's doing the clearing up in the background of the final shot.

Well observed.

I have had some lovely suggestions but I'd love some MOOOORE (before this place becomes a hailstorm of #celebritytraitors)
Might do a #totp bingo card for Friday but I need your help! Can you think of some funny #totp tropes? Stuff like what you see onscreen (like Jayne Middlemiss lying awkwardly on the set) or stuff you see posted on Bluesky (like @itsjoels.bsky.social coming up with an amazing story about an artist).

Trump: "The problem with Vietnam, we, you know, we stopped fighting to win. We would've won easy. We would've won Afghanistan easy. We would've won every war easy. But we got politically correct. 'Oh, let's take it easy.' We're not politically correct anymore, just so you understand."

Great thread from Sue on how we learn ⬇️
I find the 'no such thing as transferable skills' narrative interesting because my entire working life has been based around using my transferable skills. (I was originally a dancer and the skills I learned have influenced everything else I've come to do, including writing and teaching.) Thread 🧵⬇️

Inspired by @roryisconfused.bsky.social, I can't help thinking of this headline as the premise for an MR James story: "The Professor lighted the candles, poured a measure of sherry and told Dr Standish about the day the bang bus came to Oxford. A most remarkable tale that haunts me to this day."
