At 12:17 pm Friday, the NWS Juneau office canceled the High Wind Warning for the Ketchikan and Metlakatla areas. ‘Winds may still be gusty into the evening hours, but gusts to 60 mph or more are not expected.’
The High Wind Warning for Prince of Wales Island remains in effect until 7 pm Friday.

The National Weather Service Juneau office has issued a ‘Hurricane Force Warning’ for the southeastern Gulf of Alaska from 5 am to 5 pm Friday, with winds rising to about 65 kts with gusts to 80 kts. The hurricane force low is expected to make landfall between Baranof and Prince of Wales Island.

The Third Avenue Bypass is closed until further notice from Washington Street to Copper Ridge “out of caution during the current heavy rainfall,” according to a 3:22 p.m. Nixle Alert. The National Weather Service also has issued a flood watch for the Ketchikan area through Saturday evening.

With 4.2 inches of rain recorded at KTN Int’l Airport as of 2:53 pm today, according to National Weather Service data. The September record for rainfall in a single day is 6.54 inches on Sept. 25, 1952.

A flood watch is in effect in the Ketchikan area until 1 am Tuesday due to heavy rain. ‘High standing water, heavy flowing streams and multiple areas of heavy water flow in culverts and city streets are present in the community,’ states a Nixle alert.

As of 5:55 p.m. Tuesday, the NWS National Tsunami Warning Center has canceled the Tsunami Watch for Ketchikan and other communities in Southeast Alaska.

The NWS National Tsunami Warming Center defines tsunami watches as an advance notice to areas that could be impacted by a tsunami at a later time. Watch areas may be upgraded to a warning or advisory status, or canceled,
based on new information.

The Ward Lake Recreation Area road between Signal Creek Campground and the parking lot south of the Ward Creek bridge is closed today due to flooding caused by heavy rains in the Ketchikan area. The Forest Service is cautioning hikers to ‘avoid flooded trails as strong currents have been reported.’

Wolfe Point Update: AK DOT and SECON announced today the bypass will be paved.
Prep work and paving are scheduled to start Thursday (April 17) and continue on Friday and potentially Saturday, weather permitting.
One-way traffic and delays are anticipated during the process.

Wolfe Point update: Bypass reopened to 2-lane traffic at 7:43 pm Wednesday, according to SECON/ADOT.
Bypass will revert to one-lane, pilot-car-guided traffic from 8:30 am to 6 pm Thursday.
A blasting event is planned during that time. Flaggers will be stationed at road closure area.
