Chapter 2 of my dissertation is now available in Socius! doi.org/10.1177/2378...

In it, I aim to shed light on the debate as to whether gender specialization or gender egalitarianism is more beneficial for marital stability, considering education as an under-explored moderator of these associations
Gender Egalitarianism and Marital Dissolution: Understanding the Bifurcation of the “Gender Revolution” in the United States - Kimberly McErlean, 2025
In the context of women’s increased economic status coupled with declining divorce rates, the “gender revolution framework” suggests that greater gender equalit...

i love my weather app bc it’s like 10% chance of rain *starts pouring* or 80% chance and nary a cloud in sight. anyway guess which happened this am?

(i’m being dramatic it wasn’t pouring but there was unexpected rain several times. the last few wednesdays have been a little cursed for me)

I've been stuck in freeze mode for weeks, but the past two days were particularly bad...sometimes you gotta send yourself an email in the middle of the night with the subject "get yo shit together" with allll of your panic thoughts and then go on and get your shit together. so that's today's goal💅

stepped away from my computer and came back to this. would be so great if lovebug was actually capable of handling some of this for me
an orange cat sits on an orange and pink patterned chair (he blends in a bit) in front of a brown dining room table. on top of the table is a laptop and mouse and many sheets of paper. it looks like lovebug is contemplating the task at hand but he is probably just wondering why the laptop is not shut so he can sit on it

oh interesting! i definitely think delayed marriage plus more cohabitation as a “trial marriage” has helped for sure. now that women can afford to support themselves independently, they don’t need to rush into (potentially bad) marriages!
kimmoments.bsky.social
there’s some good qualitative work on relationship progression with regard to marriage that suggests exactly what you’re saying. i actually am not as sure about qualitative work around divorce specifically
kimmoments.bsky.social
at the moment, i am not doing any qualitative work (it’s a long term dream!), but i have a sort of follow up study in progress where im looking at the role of work family policy as well - “choosing” an egalitarian division may not be possible without support to reconcile work and family.

looked outside this AM and made the decision that we were gonna do this in the rain. first 6 miles it was actually pleasant. was positively pouring for the last 3+. but we made it (and now it’s like sunny lol)
view of the ponte vecchio in the rain. this picture does not capture the essence of how much it was raining but the ponte vecchio looks pretty (she always does)

every sunday, i make a to-do list for myself that implies a level of productivity i have never once experienced in my life. why do i keep thinking i can magically accomplish all of the leftovers from the prior week in one day?! i think there’s a term for this (insanity)

At least 15 people including journalists and teachers have been fired or suspended for criticising Charlie Kirk online, Reuters reports.

I have written and deleted a lot of posts but I keep thinking about how the brutal assassination of Minnesota State senator Melissa Hortman, her husband Mark, and their beloved dog Gilbert in June did not prompt this same level of calls for empathy, sympathy, and flags at half-mast.

"The labor participation rate for women with children younger than 5 had the biggest midyear drop in more than 40 years during the first six months of 2025."
Remote policies helped women work. In-office mandates and child care costs are driving them back out.
Low flexibility and high child care costs are pushing mothers with young kids to the sidelines after they joined the workforce in record numbers during the pandemic.

anyway if you ever need a couch (ish) to marathon plan, hit me up. you only have to run 4 days a week! but you do have to do this for basically 6 months lol

I stumbled upon the NYC marathon FB page while looking for info and most of the posts are helpful and motivating and then you have comments like "I am 70 years old and I run 7 days a week and my long runs are 30 miles" and I am like okay, that is so amazing for you; I am just trying not to die
