Yeah I think about this a lot. People don't understand the difference between a million, a billion and a trillion. It's hard to unless you really think about it.

Using the seconds thing, it's 11 days vs. 31 years vs 31,600 years, give or take.

If you counted to 1 billion, it would take you more than 31 years.

I did a little searching around and saw 10K as a figure for "CBS News" from some of those company profile sites, which I trust about as much as I trust Bari Weiss, but still. Paramount has more like 18K, according to similar sites.

I'm thinking that has to include people like the parking attendant at the CBS-owned affiliate in Duluth or something. There's just no way 10,000 people work in the newsroom operation Weiss is theoretically in charge of if she ever figures out where the bathroom is — current odds 3-1 against.

I mean Bari Weiss is a fascist con artist but I'd want to know what the heck all those people are doing too. 10K FTEs? Or 10K people who might pick up a freelance check from them once in a lifetime? I would have guessed maybe 500 for FTEs.

Incidentally, while TK obviously stands for "to come," I never in 40 years in the biz saw anyone write "tu kum."

My favorite of such terms and abbreviations is this one, tho it's generally spoken rather than written: HK.

As in, "That's an HK story."

What's funny is that while those intentional misspellings to avoid confusion with type by linotype typesetters is a real thing, lede is not one of them. It's a neologism coined after the era of hot type ended.

A good album marred by crappy 80s production for me. Hearing the Mavericks' cover of All That Heaven Will Allow tipped me off to how that sludgy sound hurt some good songs.

Still not top-tier in my book. More like interesting next level, like the first 2 albums.
