honestly I don't think animals as ethnic metaphor is a bad storytelling device I think its just that we are only seeing it done by benighted white people using it to tell children's stories badly, poisoning the well.

Despite Zootopia’s botched metaphor, I still believe it CAN be done right. It just requires feedback + experiences from minorities and understanding how discrimination originates through caste systems and colonialism. That last part you said… I never thought about that, but damn it’s true.
