When did ghosting via email in a corporate setting become commonplace?

Remember to watch the watchers. A different #SQLServer group at a mutual client was just caught adding an unauthorized index to a critical table. It caused cascading blocking and took down a critical system last night. This was after it was stressed to NOT make changes without ISV written approval.

Isn't cloud XaaS supposed to be pay by consumption? Why would a cloud provider set an artificial limit far too low to be usable, then you need to beg them to increase the limit so you can actually use it as intended?

Time for a better avatar.

I think I've had an easier time buying cars than buying a simple clothes washer.

I love how certain 'sponsored' posts at tech sites have comments disabled.

It's pretty amazing how insistent the OS vendors are at pushing AI-driven nonsense down our throats... I don't need your AI app pinned to my desktop, launch bar, anything.

Arguing with an ISV who has a database design that needs significant optimization is almost a hobby at this point…

Home tech labs are awesome.

Anyone else want to unleash a box of pit vipers on spammers who end unsolicited emails with "if you'd like to unsubscribe, just reply back with 'bubblegum shoelace blah blah blah"?

"Hey! That tool you built for your consulting that you've spent a decade improving that saves us hours and provides serious insights into our servers... Can I have a copy free of charge so we don't have to call you any more?"

... Nope.

People in IT, are you seeing that people in our field are just getting increasingly nasty and rude in day-to-day stuff? Or is it just me?

Independent consultants out there, don't forget that you can say 'no' if it's the right thing to do.

Finally found a good can of hair goo to keep this mop in place

There's something surreal about watching a company spend a significant amount of staff time to make a platform change because an AI model says a piece of hardware should be running faster than it is (or can).

I love irony. I just got a report of someone rebuilding a #SQLServer monitoring tool's deadlock tracking table because... of... deadlocks.

Due to the poor state of the (paved) roads here, I actually aired down the tires to make a drive to the store today.

Doing *something* when an IT system is acting odd is rarely the *right* thing to do.

One strategic #SQLServer covering index took a critical report from 1.25h @ 990MB/s I/O reads to just 78 milliseconds. I can live with that.

ISV quoted a client of mine $2k to add a date filter on a four-line #SQLServer delete query. This ten-second task is on me. No charge.
