Honored to be able to highlight the importance of scientific research to me personally at a time when I work to raise awareness of the threats to research freedoms and academic research for everyone.

I saw this documentary at an @everylibrary.bsky.social hosted screening in June and I still think about it. Powerful, Insightful, Alarming.

I don’t just support libraries, academic institutions, research, & science because of my advocacy work with @everylibrary.bsky.social, I am here because of scientific research, clinical trials, and the ongoing care I receive at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute & Harvard Medical School Teaching Hospital.

🔴Stop. Listen. 620 individual titles pulled from shelves - multiple that by conservatively 3 we're looking at 1800 books removed from schools across this county.

Just spent Saturday afternoon comparing the state’s lists with Hillsborough’s catalog.

It’s 620 unique titles. That’s not total number of removed copies - those are unique book titles.
flfreedomread.bsky.social
In response to state guidance for further review, the district will pull all of the titles in inventory that appeared on the 22/23 and 23/24 state reports.

The state offered no context for the removals on these reports. Over 550 titles including Ban This Book and about a dozen picture books.

Book banners LOVE to say they just want pornography out of school libraries.

They're lying.

And we have the receipts.

I can't say enough about the great work @everylibrary.bsky.social does to protect libraries and help readers have free access to books. Angry and want to do something? Help them fight for you.

SCOOP: DOGE notified the Institute of Museum and Library Sciences (IMLS) today that the entire staff is being put on administrative leave effective immediately, I’ve learned from an agency source.

They’ll be cancelling huge swaths of grants/contracts and starting a Reduction in Force (RIF).

"Columbia is likely not the last to receive this shabby treatment, especially since it appears it will set a disastrous precedent by caving to Trump's demands. In fact, the administration has now targeted the U of Pennsylvania over its policy on trans athletes, pulling back $175m in funding."
Trump moves to destroy Columbia University
It's his latest corrupt quid pro quo.

The IMLS is an independent agency created by Congress. It does not fall under the authority of the Executive Branch. If, say, dismantling DOE is illegal, this is illegal squared.

NEW — Keith Sonderling, Trump’s Deputy Secretary of Labor, has been named the Acting Director of the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS), an agency source tells me. He’ll arrive tomorrow at their office with DOGE and their security detail.

Book banning isn’t about protection—it’s about control. Every censored story is a lost opportunity for growth, empathy, and understanding. We stand for intellectual freedom and the right to read without restriction! Join us in the fight against censorship and let’s keep stories alive.
