If Australia wants to avoid American-style radicalisation and political violence, and save our tradition of political moderation, we'll need to reign in Big Tech.

Here I argue that the traditional left-right divide has been usurped by the politics of the chronically online vs. those of us who continue to primarily exist in, and interpret politics though, the offline world.

1/ For the first time since my academic career was effectively destroyed by my wrongful arrest in Iran in 2018, I have published a peer-reviewed journal article. Still not sure whether academia is where I'm meant to be, but I'm pleased to have finally got a tentative first step back on the ladder.

My interview a couple of days ago with ABC's The Business on the implications of the Iranian strike on Qatar for relations with the Gulf, and the crackdown that is now underway of the Iranian regime against its own people.

My op-ed for @crikey.com.au There is great danger that now the bombs will stop falling, the regime will turn its attention to recriminations and rounding up innocent civilians to charge with bogus security crimes in order to demonstrate that its domestic coercive power has not weakened.

"As always, the Iranian people will likely pay the greatest price for this war. It remains to be seen whether their self-appointed champions in Tel Aviv and Washington will still be there when it matters,"

What happens to Iran when the bombs stop falling?
Civilians inside Iran express grave fears that its government will severely punish them when no longer preoccupied by external enemies.

Who cares whether Scomo received an honour for doing his job, my 100 year old grandmother has been made OAM for her decades of volunteer and community service work, including up to the present day. I'm so proud of her!

Robert's ordeal is by no means over, but this is a welcome first step.

So pleased to hear that Australian engineer Robert Pether has been released from prison in Iraq. Robert is currently on bail, can't leave the country and faces the prospect of going back to court for further proceedings, which could carry more jail time.

4. Jenkins has no worth to Putin rotting away in a max security prison. I would expect Russia to leverage him for some kind of concession in the future.
