Short answer: we actually already tried doing bluesky lexicon and the whole debate over it and different implementations took months so i'm honestly so over this debate.

Long answer: i'm actually not over it and our whole journey with it is what my talk proposal at atmosphereconf is about

“should my atproto app re-use Bluesky’s follow/profile lexicons?”

my 2 cents: in your onboarding flow, let users choose to “connect” an existing social graph & set it as the default, or start fresh w/ a new social graph

like feeds, users should be able to choose their social graph & use multiple
There was feedback that users wanted to be able to follow separate people than they did on bluesky. We are working on adding an import feature.

Definitely room for UX exploration, but no-ones has a single social graph. It's the biggest lie zuck ever told. 😅

There's a lot of writing on this, but a decent place to start is Erving Goffman; we wear different masks and perform to different audiences depending on social context.

Calling it for tonight

Thanks to everyone for all the feedback and bug reports. I’ll have more energy to work on them in the morning.

I don't know if Anthropic will lose but I do know that OpenCode will win.

Bluesky community! This is my official NYC mayor account. I’ll be posting updates on what’s happening at City Hall and how we’re delivering for New Yorkers. It’s great to be here.

JavaScript trademark update:
- Oracle requested (and we agreed to) a 60-day extension in the cancellation case ttabvue.uspto.gov/ttabvue/v?pn...
- We’re deep in discovery, producing extensive evidence that “JavaScript” is used generically across the industry and does not refer to Oracle products.

i've said this before and i'll say it again

there is no great software team that didn't have useful OSS falling out of it

you can come up with excuses but there's plenty of counter examples to whatever you say

the current "hot companies" are doing basically none of this
