I do try to go when they're taking place at a location much closer to my house, but it always ends up being the same. I make a little small talk, get overwhelmed, and hide behind whatever I'm working on at that moment. I only went to them bc there was nothing else like it.

there are monthly artist hangouts run by one of the local art teachers but...idk theres nothing wrong with it, it just doesnt seem to be for me. I just make a little small talk, get tired/overwhelmed and keep to myself for a couple hours. not to mention they happen to be pretty far away.

I can't stand clubs (too loud) and I don't like going to bars alone, but it seemed like that was literally the only way to be able to meet people. The closest thing to a nerdy environment were like, spaces where people do nothing but play MTG and Smash Bros, which I was simply not interested in.

ngl I'm taking a moment to adjust to suddenly being overwhelmed w choices on events and places to go. Part of the reason I had such a hard time meeting ppl is bc there was basically nothing but events that I had no interest whatsoever in, now there are artist markets and mini cons every other week.
