Back to back CotW and 2xko fiascos make me realize those big publishers genuinly have no idea what a realistic bar for success is for fighting games (or maybe they assumed FGC ppl would just all enthusiastically jump onto the newest big game?)

I remember reading somewhere that a lot of issues with Gamers can be explained by realizing they're a demographic of people who genuinly believe they're special for beating challenges that were fundamentally designed to be beaten and that stuck with me

i feel like doujin ethos of that era was the closest to realizing "we all know the girls are what we're here for, so making every girl a lesbian is just efficient storytelling" and then we somehow strayed from that, wth happened

this hurts double coming from touhou. like bruh your entire thing was founded on comiket spirit and communal creativity and one dude's idiosyncrasies. ZUN still puts his wonky (positive connotation) digital art in the games even tho thousands of artists would do anything to make it for him

it kinda reinforces my previous anxieties that Dating Sims mechanics are just kinda always going to lead to a part of the fanbase acting really really weird (id wager it's because something as complex and essential for most people as romance just doesnt lend itself well to gamification)

Vast majority of Dispatch discourse I see is just people complaining about not getting to date X character and frankly it's flickin me off. It feels insulting to everyone involved to treat a storyline like a grabbag of waifus just because it has romance mechanics in there.
