Out of a total of 571 RAWS sites in NorCal, 57 stations are nearly at red flag criteria, while another 12, below, in the Mayacamas Mountains, are in RF criteria. The fuel moistures are very high, so fire threat is very low. Still, offshore wind is an equalizer of sorts.

Nov. and Dec., in Sonoma, Lake and Mendocino Counties were warm. Thinking photographically down the road, I hit Lake Mendo and Lake Pillsbury for a before pic. Luckily, late Dec. and early Jan. mitigated low lake levels. Dec (and Nov-Dec) 2025 were the warmest on record for Western U.S.

I've never seen the nadocast have such a high risk of tornados in the Bay Area before. This is for Christmas morning.

Curiosity will be my downfall. At the tail end of the Petaluma Lighted Boat Parade at the turning basin from my second floor vantage point, I noticed a column of smoke and the whoop of fire engines. Decided to check it out. @pressdemo.bsky.social #kentporterphotography #photojournalism
