yes, that sounds like an excellent model if costs can be kept steady.

that's great to see. best wishes to them!

no offense taken or anything--but come on, it is not really fair to assume someone will be up by 1PM, that's kind of on them imo

one time a worker did this to me and we were just straight-up asleep

very good news regardless. Do you know anything about the prognosis as to whether this gets overturned?

Makes sense, colleges in the US (all academic institutions) are going to face a tough time soon, due to the enrollment cliff along with the obvious attacks on higher education, that’s the thing I worry about for every college

I get the impression that it varies a lot depending on circumstance because TTI is a unique place as you say, I can imagine that for many folks it is fine or even growing in their estimations (but I don’t get how the finances are working out personally.)

I have heard the opposite from some folks I know there, that there is little faith in finances, significant cuts, etc. but that’s all just what I hear from a small handful of acquaintances who left to go to other places

many Americans these days are in the “putting on the clown face” phase just in case it becomes *really* acceptable to lay it all out

Project 2 in my compilers class has students build a compiler from a tiny straight-line arithmetic language to x86-64--includes nice debugging server to help diagnose faults vs. instructor outputs kmicinski.com/cis531-f25/p...

i can see you’re eager to jump down someone’s throat here but we fundamentally agree, so i apologize

Don’t think for a second that there will be first-amendment protections in a political climate that is embracing authoritarianism—and will do so even more after Kirk’s death. I do not support Kirk’s killing at all and one of the main reasons is that it will predictably backfire in exactly this way

I saw this on a Reddit thread yesterday, will send a link if I find it

I believe Texas A&M does have a recording policy, reprimanded the student for violating the policy, and still everyone got fired.

The policy means nothing, the school is an appendage of the state, legitimizing their actions. and it’s the faculty who are selling their credibility.

so yeah, corporate execs will still be the ones who are causing it--just like forever, as the executive class always has. But that doesn't mean that individuals shouldn't face pressure against following out those commands. Execs finding out that HR is pushing back is *good* :-)
krismicinski.bsky.social
I would hate the messenger too. The reality is that HR employees are the ones who are *proximately enacting* these policies. I'm going to just go mask off and admit I'm an asshole here: social pressure by treating these people like dicks is OK and justified.

Zohran is seemingly the only person feared by the right, Bernie gets it correct here

We can set an example for the whole nation in this election.

just goes to show that money doesn't buy freedom. When your money is massively invested in a stock which the president can devalue at a whim, you become less free than folks who are orders of less power than yourself.

Oh yeah, I’m very conciliatory to horseshoe theory. And I agree

I’m not really sure if it’s true to say that communism is this. What we’re seeing now is cronyism, corruption, and a rebuke of science for ideology. Even my legit communist friends would hate that even if they literally want universal housing, healthcare, etc.

Although I personally am conciliatory towards rather extreme leftist ideas for an American, I do *not* want the left version of whatever is going on right now. i feel i have to clarify this when so many folks‘ reasoning is “well they’d do it to us if they could too.” No, I wouldn’t be deporting you.

Just remember when you see those massive bonuses handed out so that ICE can meet recruitment numbers, that’s *your* tax dollars at work
