In recent years, policymakers have made pledges for huge tree-planting projects a cornerstone for meeting national carbon reduction goals, but failed to cut fossil fuel emissions.

But a new study shows the carbon sequestration estimates made for those forestation projects may be wildly optimistic.
There’s far less land available for reforestation than we think, study finds
Josep “Pep” Canadell, executive director of the Global Carbon Project, says he believes countries large and small need to think twice before pledging to collectively plant billions of trees as a…

7/7 Science faces challenges, but I’m hopeful universities can continue to support evidence-based research and the people who dedicate their careers to it. And if you’re interested in collaboration, let’s connect 🤝.

6/7 Leaving the Forest Service is bittersweet—I’ve never met a group more mission-driven and genuinely dedicated. But I’m excited to carry what I learned there into this next chapter, working with students, communities, and collaborators.

4/7 A judge ruled to reinstate us, and while I was grateful to return, the experience made me reflect on stability and where I could put down roots to keep building momentum as an early-career scientist. So…

3/7 Earlier this year, that dream was suddenly interrupted when I was let go during a wave of administrative terminations—an abrupt reminder that science jobs in public service can sometimes rest on politics, not performance. Luckily…

Reminder that Federal scientists for the most part have no ability to go to conferences right now so if you want to add in how collaborations with these folks have been affected, that would be awesome, thanks.

Every scientist should discuss the consequences of the NIH and NSF grant terminations and delays and failure to fund at their home institution at the end of a talk or seminar. Even if a scientist’s own funding is not threatened, I GUARANTEE there is someone at their institution affected.

It's breaking my brain to hear amazing talks that show treatments that help patients developed out of fundamental research, while temporarily ignoring the backdrop of the American science funding disaster
