“Last night, South Carolina woke up to a nightmare no community should ever endure. Four lives were stolen from us. Twenty more people were injured. Families are shattered. A community is grieving.

My heart breaks for the victims, their loved ones, and everyone who was forever changed by this senseless act of violence. I’m praying for strength and healing for those in the hospital and for the families who received the worst possible news.

But prayers alone are not enough. We owe it to these families, and to every South Carolinian, to build a future where this kind of tragedy is not a regular headline. Gun violence is not inevitable. It is a choice our leaders make every time they look the other way, every time they offer thoughts and prayers but block common-sense solutions.

No family should have to wonder if their loved ones will come home from a bar, night club or a football game. No neighborhood should be defined by the violence it has endured. We need stronger background checks, red flag laws that keep guns out of dangerous hands, and investments in community violence prevention. These are not partisan ideas. They are common-sense steps to save lives.

South Carolina is better than this. We can honor those we’ve lost not just with our words, but with real action. I stand with the families, the first responders, and every neighbor mourning today, and I will fight every day to make sure tragedies like this become rarer, not routine.”

Yes. It absolutely is. It's terrible and getting worse. My fear is that this pushes us further into insanity and away from reason. The powers that be want us fighting each other because that keeps them safe and gives them excuses to grab more power. This is what they want. Don't feed them.

I certainly don't feel sad for Charlie, he was a bully until someone punched back. I do however feel sad for his child and for the people present whose lives are going to be deeply affected by this. I feel sad for what this is going to do to our discourse, and the direction it aims our country in.

He absolutely did court this. He was solidly in the "F around and find out" camp, but we can still be good enough not to take the bait and resort to violence.

Think of how the right would cheer if this happened to someone on the left. Think of how gross that is. We should strive to be different.

The shooting didn't just take the life of Charlie Kirk. It ruined the lives of his family, traumatized the audience, enraged and broke the hearts of his followers, and pushed the country further from peace and understanding, and closer to more violence.

You cannot stop violence with violence.

My father was part of the drug interdiction team in the Navy. He told me lots of stories from those times, and none of them involved blowing up civilians. This is an outrageous abuse by people who just want to feel powerful.
